Hosted files or downloadable ones?

I'm currently in the final phases of launching a new WSO that consists of a PDF and several videos... My question is "is it better to host the files on a "membership" type site or to simply allow them to be downloaded? I'm already WELL aware that anyone with a little know how and a mind to do so is going to be able to strip mine them regardless, but is it worth the trouble of trying to creat such a detourant in an effort to reduce piracy or is it moot?

    Well a lot of people will tell you it doesn't matter, just create a good product.

    I will tell you that you should create a membership site, because in the eye of the customer it's perceived as super valuable when the content is a little bit polished up. You will probably also get a lower refund rate. So in my view, it's super important to make the site look as good as possible. Obviously don't spend days on it, but a few hours just to make it pretty.

    Though, this now leads me to a whole new question... What's the best way to go about creating a membership site? I.E. best platform / plugin for a simple, clean and professional looking site that will work as seem less as possible with a WSO type launch?

      What you need is a WP site which comes with a lot of plugins to choose from. They have plenty of backend stuff for SEO and you can set security at each and every level as you deem fit. Within that you can have your blog and/or a forum and you download link somewhere secure. If you need help let me know.

    I totally recommend Wishlist as you membership plugin and Optimize Press as your WP theme. I also want to point out that by having everything in a clean and easy to use membership area you'll have lower refunds as long as you have a good product of course.

    Host them. Be sure to track IP's of every user if you want to prevent your files from being leaked on warez forums.
