Default Google geo targets?

Im doing an experiment with keywords and i just realised that when i use google it geo targets.

I typed in my keyword without quotes into google and i noticed a lot of australian sites got listed... silly me i thought... im on google.com.au

I removed the .au so it just had google.com and refreshed... but still i got a lot of australian sites.

So does that mean whats page 1 in Australia isnt page 1 in America or UK?

I thought i found an awesome long tail, but now im not so sure

Can someone clear this up for me?

Mark

Yes Google definitely geo-targets. You will get different results depending on where in the world you're located (or which result set you're searching).

These differences can be minor or sometimes huge.

There's a firefox plugin called Google Global that allows you to search Google in different countries.

Yes, I'm afraid so!

You need to make sure your site is physically hosted in the country that is your biggest market - as this will give you a boost in that market.
