Kindle Editing Question

I submitted an ebook to kindle store and it was accepted. I revised it earlier this morning and sent it in again. It was accepted but when I click on the click to preview, the old version seems to appear and not the new one. Does anyone know if it may take a day for that to refresh? I am pretty sure I resubmitted the new version. I didn't resubmit the cover as that was the same- just curious why the click to view version seems to be showing the older one.

    Hi Debbie

Most changes on Kindle take a good 2 - 3 days to work through in my experience.Wait a bit longer.

    Hi Ken,

Thanks. I got the approval e-mail though so that's why I'm confused. Are you saying that it is 2 days after it is approved again for the resubmit? It was grayed out in my dashboard but now it is not grayed out so it seems it was reviewed and therefore I assumed the new version would appear in the preview.

      Hi there,

If it not grayed out any more then it is live and the version that is appearing is the one that is loaded. For some reason it hasn't loaded your updated version. Did you make sure to save the page before you went on to the next page?

Hope you manage to get it sorted

    Hi Kerry,

Thanks for your question. It says save and continue after you upload the book so it must've been saved. Do you think I should try it again or is that too much to send it 2 revisions in 2 days? I could write support I guess but don't want to be a pain! I definitely did upload the right version I'm am 99 percent sure!

      Hi Debbie,

Give it a couple of days. Eventually the updated version will be up. I remember changing a book cover and I even got an email from Amazon accepting the new change and the book went live - BUT with the same old cover. I went in and changed again. Again the same old cover but on my dashboard I saw the new cover. I thought I forgot to 'save' first before publishing that was not the case because I did it a few times.

So after a few days, I was quite annoyed and wrote to Amazon and they told me to edit again. I did, and the same old cover was still coming up in the kindle library. But the new cover keeps showing on my dashboard.

Then I just left the matter. After a couple of weeks, the book cover was changed. If you have updated the new version, there is no need to worry. It should be in their data file with the new version.

When you upload the new version you will get an accurate preview before saving and exiting. Then in about 8-12 hours you get the email letting you know the new version is live.

However - the "look inside" part will not update for 3-5 days sometimes. If you email Amazon about it they will say to give it a week. I have, however, seen the LI update correctly with the new publishing email sometimes.

Not sure why this is. I have also had some LI's not update after 5 days even, and then re-uploaded and had them correct as soon as the new publishing email arrived. In those cases I was fixing bullet points in the front sample chapter to display better, and probably made some kind of formatting no-no the first time.

I am learning to hire editors from freelance boards BEFORE uploading the first time. Costs about 10 bucks per book (6000-7000 words). Those job postings get CRAZY responses; there are a heck of a lot of good proof-readers who are good with Word on these boards - much more than affordable good ghost writers. They are pretty quick too.

Getting it all right before uploading it the first time eliminates these re-upload issues.

          Rosa and Budfox,

Thanks and it is good to know it can take 3 to 5 days for Look Inside to update. Of course, the first few pages was where I had a few typos and mistakes! I will wait a little longer.

If it isn't fixed in 5 days I will upload again and possibly write them. Is it too much to do a couple of revisions in the first week? I don't want to annoy the staff. Next time, I will be more careful and that is a good idea about getting a freelancer as a 2nd set of eyes.
