I'm new to the board and notice a lot of people talking about their niche without specifying what it is. Is that an intentional practice out of fear that someone will steal your niche since it is likely profitable?

A lot of people will not discuss their niche in order to prevent people jumping on to it also and increasing their competition.

      This is spot on.
I was at work the other day(day job) and I announced I was booking three days off in june adding them to the extra bank holidays we are getting in the uk this year which would give 9 days off for 3 days holiday.
"thats a good idea" said my colleagues. Before putting in their requests for the same 3 days.(guess who didn't get the 3 days they wanted)

      It's Human Nature.

If you talk about a great new niche you have found on a marketing forum, chances are, people with greater knowledge than you will think "thats a good idea" before kicking your ass.

      Regards

      Martin

        Do some keyword research,
use google adwords tools to find what are people looking for by search volume, then find the low competition, find the ratio logically suits you.
        Then jump into that niche

Also, some people spend a lot of time and money before they find a niche that's converting well. They don't necessarily feel like sharing what they've worked so hard to find on their own.

    Sometimes.

People vary, according to their beliefs, attitudes, business models and niche-selection methods.

Some people put a lot of work into selecting niches which are financially viable but non-competitive, and they certainly don't want too many others discovering the niche or realising how successful it can be, because that would make it competitive.

ETC is an acronym for electronic transfer chain. This is a rather esoteric field, but has many applications in biology, botany, cytology, medicine, pathogens, virology, neurology, chemistry, physics, physiology and applied science such as in agriculture, environmental microbiology, pharmacology, toxicology, green technology, sports medicine, molecular gastronomy, food processing and fuel cells. There is a plethora of books on Amazon for your marketing pleasure.

    cdispoto,

Since there is a relatively low barrier to entry in many niches, an IM business tries to minimizing the amount of competition (for ranking its niche website in search engines or for developing niche-related products, for example) by not specifically mentioning niches and/or keywords in a post.

There is human nature involved, too.

I think a lot of people confuse niche. I swear I learned somewhere that was a group of people or a group of people who create a certain environment through interest and need .. but that could of been after Momma dropped me on my head.

But to use niche as most would here ... My niche would be the needs of internet marketers. That being a little broad we will scale down some.

Some days we give away basic education in hope of creating a sufficient income for the reader so they can invest in our advanced studies.

Another day finds us creating and testing new products to sell to internet marketers. Some days we sell a lot of shovels.

Needless to say this is a pretty competitive "niche", but there is always room for a few more .. so come on in .. if the water is warm .. you are standing next to the service providers .. they work crazy hours and drink a lot of coffee.

Some niches can be easily detected just by looking into the signature of people's posts.
