Squidoo & Amazon Modules

Is there any advantage to adding the Amazon module into your Squidoo lens rather than embedding your own affiliate link?

I thought I read somewhere that you will get paid at the top commission rate if you use the Squidoo Amazon module because they have so many sales going through their links. But doesn't Squidoo take a portion of what Amazon sales you would generate?

I have never been able to get my commission rate above about 6.5% so not sure if I should do this or not.

Thoughts?

    I personally have not used the Amazon program through squidoo. If Squidoo is giving you the top affiliate commission then I would indeed use Squidoo if it does not work out you can always edit your page and change it back.

    Squidoo *gets* the top Amazon affiliate rate, but they then split it with you, so you are back down to 4% or so.

    I use both SQ built in Az modules and my own Az links, and on some lenses one or the other will convert better. Different types of Az modules convert differently too, including the sidebar widget ones. You have to test in order to find out what works best on your lenses, with your traffic.

    I also use a mix of the two - initially mostly Amazon Squidoo modules as the sales bring the lens to a higher tier as well. Once I see that some products sell better from the lens, I add those to my own Amazon affiliate links. I also split the sidebar widget module, using both: one Sqiudoo and then the rest manually making my own links with images. So far it works great.

      Hi, Mitja - this isn't actually the case but I think I know what you meant. First, Squidoo has NO problem with someone using their own Amazon links.

      However, their internal tier model may not give you as many points for using your own links.

      If your goal is to earn money only through Tier payouts, you might want to keep that in mind but if your goal is to make money from Amazon, there comes a point where it's better to use your own links.

      Squidoo's volume earns them the 8.5% commission rate every month. Split with the lensmaster, you earn 4.25% for your sales using Squidoo's links. The minimum rate for selling just 1-6 items on Amazon using your own links is 4% but as soon as you make 7 sales in the month, you'd be earning 6% on your own (Amazon.com - US, anyway). At that point, you'd be better off using your own links.

      Please don't say things that are not true. Squidoo never said such things. I have many lenses that have only my own Amazon links in them. The only downside of this is that if you're for the tier payouts, it's more difficult to get there (since you get easier in top tiers if you make sales through Squidoo's Amazon modules). I became a Giant squid with several of my lenses having only my own Amazon aff. codes and it was perfectly ok.

    SQ sidebar widgets: edit your lens, and look over at the top of the right sidebar: you should see a "manage widgets" tab just under the progress bar.

    A little off-topic. But are any of you actually making money from squidoo? By that ofcourse I mean 'decent' money.

    Read a WSO on it a while and I could see how it worked but just never really followed through to taking action with it.

      Squidoo still can be very profitable. Do a search for Tiffany Dow's Squidoo Amazon thread. She gives away an awesome playbook that you can follow and make money with.....Very nice of her to do that, I must add!

    Lots of people make money on Squidoo. A very few make a living on it.

    Re your own Amazon links vs Squidoo's for Tier payments: tier payments depend on lensrank, and while no-one outside Squidoo HQ knows the lensrank algorithm, we do know that sales off a lens (via Squidoo's links eg to Amazon and eBay) give you a good lensrank boost, and clickouts (to anything, including your own affiliate links) give you a small boost.

    There are some affiliate links that SQ looks askance at, but Amazon isn't one of them.

    once you make enough sales through amazon you need to contact them and work out a higher commission structure they will do this if you are at " super affiliate status "
