What model for a support site?
I'm planning on creating a support site for a medical issue, and I'm undecided as to which of two models to go with. I'm surveying potential members for their ideas and needs, but thought I'd put it out here for opinions too.
We can use diabetes as an example.
One option is to install a community site such as Boonex Dolphin, which features forums, chat, photo gallery etc. My own thoughts are that it may be overkill to have all those features, and most won't be used by busy people.
Another option is to create a wordpress blog, with general information on the issue on the front (good for SEO), and an opt in box, add a membership portal and behind the portal there's a discussion forum and the option for members to have their own WP blogs to share their journey and read about other people's experiences. Much cleaner, and not as busy, but would still have some sense of community. I'm not convinced photo galleries etc would be a huge advantage, when people can put their photos on their blogs, which could also be then viewed by family and friends not in the membership.
Perhaps there's another option I haven't thought of. My plan is to eventually turn this into a subscription service, so would like to have the groundwork laid out properly from the start.
Thanks for your thoughts. Have a good weekend.
