Can you offer a step by step install directions for Word Press on a Hostagator acct?

I used Fantastico to download Wordpress.

The files are there, in the public folder. I'd like to change the theme. I don't know how and then how to get the thing to show up.

If you can offer some simple to understand steps, it would be greatly apprciated.

OH, I've spent most of the day at both the Hostgator forums and the Word Press forums. I have the Dummy's book on Word Press and also a book on Cpanel. That hasn't helped.

All I want is someone to take me by the hand, as if I were a 6 year old, and show me how to get the Word Press blog up and OPERATING on my website.

I'd like to change the theme

(left hand menu) Appearance>themes> (click on the thumbnail of the one you want) > (top right of the dark overlay) - activate 'theme'

Done.
