Results From My First Solo Mailings

Hey everyone,

Recently I signed up at safe swaps and ordered a couple solo mailings to start building an email list. I received 411 clicks resulting in 132 subscribers, so that works out to be a conversion rate of about 32%.

I was wondering what kind of opt-in rates others were getting who are also using safe swap/solo mailings to build their list? I guess 32% is a decent starting point, but I definitely plan on doing some tweaking to increase that number.

Here's the link to my squeeze page if anyone is interested in taking a look. I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

http://easyonlineincomestrategies.co...uilding-maniac

As soon as someone subscribes to my list, I send them directly to an OTO selling squeeze page templates for $9.95 since this offer is directly related to the list building freebie I'm giving away.

My conversion here was awful, as I only made one sale. However, the sales page I was using was the pre-designed html template that came with the plr product. So in retrospect, probably wasn't the best idea to use that as is.

I decided to stick with the same OTO offer, but re-did the sales page using optimize press. I think it looks MUCH better now and hopefully my conversion will increase. I have another solo coming up tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Anyway, just wanted to share my results in case anyone else out there has just started solo mailing campaigns or is thinking about starting to build their list.

Feel free to leave any feedback or share your own results!

Thanks!

    SQUEEZE PAGE SUGGESTIONS:

    1. I would get rid of that ecover graphic and put a video there instead. Having you explain about the incentive has to be better than the cover.

    2. Your headline needs work. For instance you say Want To Learn 50 Deadly Effective Ways... blah blah blah, but you never say WHY. Do you know what I mean? Why do I want to know about those 50 Deadly Effective Ways? Answer that question and that will finish your headline.

    OTO SUGGESTIONS:

    1. So you're offering squeeze pages. Do you know how many people offer squeeze pages? It's like an "easy out" because you don't have to work hard to create it.

You have to make it an "Irresistible" offer... one that cannot be turned down easily. Sure, you can use the squeeze page templates but throw in more of them or better yet, test them and then shoot a video about your results. How you set them up, how you made them convert, etc...

Whatever you have for a OTO it has to be more than some squeeze pages if you want it to convert.

Very true, and a 32% list conversion is pretty kick a$$ also.

      Mike,

Wow, thanks for the feedback....all great points you made. I really like the idea of testing one of the squeeze page templates that I'm selling and creating a video discussing the results if positive. I think that will be the focus of my next solo ad.

I'll also try replacing the ebook image with a brief video discussing some benefits and then see which converts better.

      Thanks again!

    I usually get 20% - 30% optin rates.

But beware when you purchase solo ads from safe swaps.

Read their reviews and how much they overdeliver. Some of them actually sends trash optins. like XXXXX067 and XXXXX068 at same time.

Thanks for sharing your results Kwonyoo. I am definitely cautious in who I purchase solos from as I have noticed there are some sellers there who seem a little less than reliable.

You had a 32% optin, but have you validated all of their addresses? It is possible that some signed up with a fake e-mail address.

      Entrecon,

No I did not validate the addresses and I did have double opt-in turned off in aweber. My thinking was that I would be able to add more subscribers faster without requiring them to confirm after opting in, but I realize that can compromise list integrity and stability. May have to switch to confirmed opt in and see how that works out.

I wouldn't worry about fake email addresses. For solo mailings stick with single opt-ins at this stage. You are paying a fixed cost for each solo mailing, so your goal should be to get as many targeted opt-ins as possible. Focus more on split-testing your squeeze page to maximize the number of opt-ins and maximizing conversions through your funnel. The subscribers who will be interested will stay on your list, and the ones who won't will unsubscribe over time. This is just part of the game of list building.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Until you have verified that all the email addresses are genuine that 32% stats may be speaking too soon.

I never ask for the "name" on the optin form in the IM market. (many of the people that do put a name in will put in a fake name or something crazy and every time you send them an email you will be addressing them by the crazy name or swear word they put into the optin form)

Taking out the "name" field in your optin form will increase your optins. Just make sure that if you don't ask for the first name that when you write your email copy you make it personal since you will not be addressing them by name. Simply write your email as if you are writing it to a good friend and recommending something to them.

That's a good point...going with just an email opt in form did cross my mind. I'll probably split test that as well and see how much that increases my opt in rate if any.

Congrats on taking the action to do your first solo ad. Good conversion rate considering your squeeze page is missing a few vital pieces (as corrected by Mike).

The headline didn't quite grab my attention the way it should - maybe you should increase the font size a little.

As for your opt-in rate, I would say that 32% sounds pretty good to me, however with some tweaking and testing you should be able to bump it up to at least 40%.

Yeah, I'm working on a more catchy headline that focuses on what the benefits would be. I'm hoping to get close to 40% for my next solo once I have made all of these changes.

Going back over your OP, you didn't say how much you paid for your solo ad. Would you mind sharing?

I'm interested in seeing your CPL (cost per lead).
