What should I do with my blog?!?!

Hey Warriors,

so I started a gift blog last year called formyboyfriend and one of the categories I just had for fun was "eye candy" for when the girls want to think about themselves for a change. But now I'm noticing that half my [very small] traffic is coming through from keywords like hot guys and hot guy and actually the most common landing page is a picture of two hot guys biting the same apple... so you can see where this is leading.

I'm wondering if I should change the whole thing and just go for this keyword as the gift idea is so competitive I'll never make money out of it as is but not really sure what I could do. Firstly wondering if these visitors are male or female, don't want to make any assumptions, maybe I should do a poll on landing?! Anyone got any thoughts or advice?

Add Google Analytics, Alexa, Quantcast or other tracking tools so that you can drill down and see demographic info about your site visitors

I'd say you're dealing with girls/young women. Unless you have a very interesting audience lol

Hot guy doesn't seem like the most commercially profitable keyword, unless you want to do porn or maybe dating type stuff. Which is of course a valid option if you want to go there... Just putting some Adsense or something would probably give you EPCs that aren't bad at all.

    Always worth a shot

Thanks Fondi, that's exactly what I was thinking, and not very keen to go with porn! Maybe I should just keep plugging away and hope those girls are just wishful thinking :p

Handle, given the most popular thing on your blog, I'd say that a large part of your small audience is gay men.

With the growing number of US states allowing gay marriage, you might want to think about reworking your site into a gift guide for gay guys. From dating to engagement to wedding gifts, etc.

It's a new horizon for an established, very competitive niche, and you could carve off a profitable slice of it.

Thanks John, this is pretty much what I was thinking as well. Definitely food for thought!

Every time you see a keyword in Google analytics, write an article using the keyword in the title and body of the post.

If the keywords are very similar to other keywords you have used in the past (and created an article for) then just edit that post and put that keyword in (if it makes sense).

Then link articles together using keywords in the anchor text on your blog.

Just keep on doing this and watch you traffic grow - If you think about this, it's the perfect recipe.

Google has rewarded your site by sending you traffic on a given keyword - So why not tell google to send more traffic using that keyword by optimising a page for it.

This has worked well for me in many niches and I feel sure will for you as well.

    Good luck!

Thanks I liked the idea above and will start following it.

From a Canadian standpoint, it seems to me that your website is drawing/attracting homosexual men. While I do not have direct knowledge of this market within the U.S.A., I would imagine it would be a profitable niche if marketed and promoted properly.

I would definitely recommend staying for away from anything associated with porn. Sure this market has a lot of quantity, most people do not associate this niche with quality. :-)

Thanks, I definitely think you and John are on the right track will keep brainstorming how to make it relevant for them DEFINITELY do NOT want to start doing porn, I'd prefer to do work on something I'm passionate about and as this post itself is getting awkward, I don't think I'm cut out for the xxx industry!

So, you keep saying ... but nobody's suggesting you should.

A gift site targeted at gay male couples doesn't need to have anything to do with porn at all, does it?

You might have happened upon a profitable niche, with the site, though. There's nothing "xxx" about gift sites for gay couples, but if the niche somehow offends you, perhaps you should think again ...

Hi Alexa, actually if you go back two people commented that it (porn) was an option, I'm merely reiterating that that is not a direction I want to go. I've also stated twice that I would be looking into adapting the site to suit a gay demographic, I'm not uncomfortable with that at all? Sorry if you have read my comments the wrong way? Do you have any constructive comments or suggestions on how I could approach this new direction? I'm very open to dieas
