Do not be scared to do this

I posted a few days back about the #1 thing that helped my business really explode in 2011. Helping people has become a big part of what I do. Before, however, I was just getting started and was completely overwhelmed with the whole thing. I liked to idea of internet marketing, because I liked the idea of being anonymous. I realized after about a year that not only was it not as effective, it was actually pretty miserable.

I like socializing, meeting new people, discussing business ideas. I felt like I was at it all alone. It wasn't that I didn't really want to talk to anyone, I was scared more than anything. Scared that someone might think I was an idiot, or that all my ideas sucked. What happened was anything but that. I made it a point to make connections and network a lot. This forum is great, but it must go beyond that, have 1 on 1 conversations with people.

So my advice is, do not be scared to network and put yourself out there. That doesn't mean you message someone just to say "tell me how to make money." Instead just get in touch with someone simply because you want to surround yourself with like minded entrepreneurs. You will be amazed at the people you will meet, and the people that are willing to help you. In fact, the first time I did this, I met someone who I ended up paying $500 to for coaching/mentoring. I turned that into $6600 with only 1 method we talked about. If I would have been reluctant to approach that person, because I thought they wouldn't be interested in helping me, I would have missed a huge opportunity.

Get out there and start creating a mastermind group. I put my skype details on my profile because I want to talk to and help people, not because I want to hide! I suggest you start to do the same and see what happens!

Really good post and I think you're right about networking.

t's super important to network with people that are on the same tracks as you too. This helps to keep you focused and moving in the right direction and not distracted, or seeking the next shiny thing.

In the same sense that you should keep your daily tasks targeted towards your money making goals, you should keep your networking targeted to people that you can help and who you can actually work together with on similar goals.

    Thanks for the post.

Yes it happens. Not everyone you come across is going to be a beneficial relationship. Just have to move on from those people. You'll get an idea right away whether its someone you should build a relationship with or not.

Great tip!! Awesome! I gotta say I was in the same page, and I'm still working on it - I started internet marketing about a year and half ago - never took forums or networking too serious, I thought IM was about making money on your own if you wanted to. Of course you would but you also have a greater chance to fail when you work alone.

I've realized that opening your mind to other people actually helps you realize what you are doing wrong and why you haven't reach success yet. Talking to others, interacting and exchanging ideas is actually a good brain exercise that helps us maintain a positive mindset, leaving us with a positive attitude, leading us to SUCCESS!

Many people quit IM before they even give meeting new people a chance.

Great advice! I'm following it 100%

This is so true. You will be amazed what happens when you start hanging out with successful people. When you hang out with negative people who complain all day and who are lazy, you will start to pick up their traits as well.

Always surround yourself with successful people.

    ^^^second (or third) this!!

To more like minded entrepreneurs you can surround yourself with the more ideas and doors will be open. Talking to seo one can spark an idea or give you a resource to help complete a project your working on.

    Networking, a definite must!

The whole life is about relationships. If you want to get somewhere, you need to begin networking.

I see why some people don't like it (I was the same), but once you break the point everything changes.

I left my JOB 10 years ago to become self-employed. Looking back the greatest asset I took with me was the relationships that I had formed. Those relationships literally financed my first 5 years in business.

You can measure wealth in many ways - if you go to a funeral and see how many people turn up, you will see who the really wealthy people are. Usually those that have helped many people along the way.

If you help other people without the expectation of return, then the law of reciprocity will work in your favour. I truly believe this.

The chances of success will definitely be higher when you're networking with a lot of people who are experts in your field. Since you mentioned something about being scared, I'd like to share something as well. I look at fear as chains that hold you back. If you talk to people, there will come a time that those chains will loosen. Well, that's how I visualize it.

Business is all about relationships with other people: clients/customers, partners, suppliers, employees, the list goes on and on. As John Donne so eloquently put it:

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
    is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as a manor of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

    John Donne

Personally, I've always found local networking groups a great way to meet offline clients. Your local chamber of commerce should be able to pont you in the right direction.

Thanks for this post. I completely agree. There are many business opportunities that I would have missed had I not asked questions and met the right people. Networking is necessary for any business venture so be polite to the people you meet and try not to burn bridges.
