What would he do?

If you're trying to figure out what to do to make money online a good way to think of it is to think as if you were someone else. For example, what would Frank Kern do right now to make a living online if he lost everything (celebrity, contacts and all) and had to start from scratch. Do you think he would mess around with all the latest little wso tactics? Or maybe buy the IM products launched on clickbank every damn day? Build little sniper sites making ten bucks a month? No he wouldn't. I would expect him to find a hungry market and find out everything about it..make a squeeze page giving away a gift to get the optin..provide hardcore value to his list and have a product for sale as soon as possible and keep growing and making money from that list. No big secret here. People did this in 2000 and if you look around all the big boys still do it today..so...what are you going to do?

    My small piece of advice: don't rely on something under the grasp of search engines. Your rankings drop, byebye income. I think providing a needed service in an extremely good fashion is a good way to go. If you do something "the best", people will be asking around, "I need -blank-, anyone have preferences on who does it best"?... and when they reference you, you're more likely to get the business. Word of mouth is probably the best form of advertising. Anyways, I think I got highly off topic so I'll stop

    I used the same line of thinking when i used to run my offline business. I would ask myself, "What would Dan Kennedy do to make this direct mail campaign successful?" Then I would turn on his CD's, and mimic the way he spoke, and followed his advice to the T.

    Don't rely on the grasp of search engines? Your kidding right? Yes search alogos change but even the Google beast rewards those who feed their BOTS great, optimized content. Over the last 5 years, the only time my HIGH search rankings have dropped is when I abandoned the optimized site and stopped creating content.

    If I'd avoid anything, it is dependence upon Paid Search - you get banned and then what? We made our first $10,000 in 2008 selling a book addressing this very real issue. Sorry my friend - that is just flat out bad advice.

      I agree SEO is still a key ingredient to whatever you do, but things are changing all the time so the only way is to keep your eyes and ears open so you can adapt and get stronger.
