Why "Internet Marketer" for People Who Sell to the "Make Money Crowd"

I always found this weird, and wanted to get some opinions on it.

When someone sells to the "how to make money crowd", either with some information product or some software that will help people to make money...those people are called "internet marketers."

But, if you sell shoes or tv's online, you are not called an "internet marketer."

Why?

Doesn't everyone who sells anything online use internet maketing?

How else will I sell my health info, or nutrition info, or tv's, or how to paint stuff...on the internet, if I don't use internet marketing?

I think the people who sell to the "make money market" should have a new name like "make money marketer"

Or maybe anyone who sells any info product should be called a "how to info marketer"

    Anyone that sells anything or markets online is an Internet marketer. I sell to the make money crowed but I wouldn't call myself a make money marketer (even though it has a catchy ring to it) because I market more than one niche. And even then you are still considered an internet marketer regardless. What would you call the people that's in the porn industry jama?

      I understand that internet marketing means using the internet to market your products.

      Isn't amazon a large internet marketing company too?

      After all, weren't they one of the first to start affiliate programs? Even though they may do some offline marketing as well.

      But as far as the porn industry...they probably know a huge amount about how to market online and I think, for the most part, they are still referred to as "selling porn online" if they are so bold enough to state what they do.

        If somebody asked what I did for a living and I only marketed to this industry, I wouldn't answer the question. LOL! JK. Even though when you call yourself an internet marketer a lot of people tend to think porn freaks anyway. No offense to the people that market in this niche.

    I think you have mis-understood something, somewhere.

    If you sell ANYthing online, then you are an internet marketer.. The internet is just a medium by which to sell things...

      I haven't misunderstood anything actually. I am using the guru's own words.

      When they sell to markets other than "the make money online" market. They call it their niche businesses.

      Isn't everything a niche? Some small, and some large, but all niche's

      Why is a mailing list that sells products to dog owners a niche business, but a list that sells products to people who want to make money online "internet marketing"?

      The "internet marketers" themselves call these other markets, niches. Separating it from the "internet marketing" crowd

      David DeAngelo's Double your Dating is referred to in ways such as "makes a killing in the dating niche"

      What I'm saying is, why are the most well known guru's referred to as internet marketers? Separating them out from other businesses. Like - sells golf stuff online.

      Isn't every business on the internet run by an internet marketer?

      When someone says John Doe is an internet marketer, do you not immediately think of someone selling "how to make money" on the internet products?

      Try this test...take 5 seconds and...
      Name the 5 most popular internet marketers?

      See who you come up with.

        They may be referring to their "niche business", but they are still an internet marketer, who is running a niche business... even selling stuff in the I.M. niche is a niche business..

        I'm struggling to see why you have this confusion.

        Regardless of WHAT you sell on the internet, from golf clubs to learjets, self help to dating, dog grooming to hair extensions.. books on amazon, or books about acne..

        It doesn't matter..

        In my opinion...if you're selling online, you are an internet marketer...
