CB Landing Email Capture Strategies

A lot of the Warriors here use a combination of my software, DLGuard, and GetResponse's (aff link) ability to automatically add customers to it's mailing list.

This way, anyone who buys from your are automatically added to your list, no need to present them with any boxes to fill in, which can annoy some buyers.

I like the idea of a landing page to adding it to my responder. I don't mind subscribing to someones list but when I'm automatically added through my paypal I don't like.

I think this practice is a bunch of bull and shouldn't be allowed. I know I can unsubscribe but why should I even have to if I never askede to subscribe with that email.

Adding people automatically through Paypal will get you HATE mail - that is a fact! The pop-up boxes ARE annoying but I tend to find that they work best for this - usually if you just ask for the first name + email address ... apparently full names are too much to ask for

I'd have to agree that getting my email added to a mailing ask without asking for it would get me pissed off. When I bought something from someone I would sort of expect it though.

Using the "annoying" pop-up has advantages over the static, in-line type capture box. Many people may not make it through the page to get to the static type squeeze box. With the pop-up or hover-over type form it will be put in front of the visitor no matter where they are on the page at the time.

NOTE: aWeber allows you to set the time delay before the pop-up pops up. I think the default time is 5 seconds. I have done some experimenting on this and have found that delaying the pop to occur after about 15 seconds actually does better.

I think that when a pop up pops immediately, the visitor is being asked to give up their name and email before they even know what the site is about. Giving them just a tad more time at least lets them get a tiny inkling of what's there before they are asked to give up their info. Experiment, if it adds 10% to your opt-in rates it's well worth doing. Good luck!

On thing that irks me is when CB vendors set up a funnel so that once you place your order you are not take to a download page immediately, but to a page where they make you submit your name, email and sometimes phone number. I do not do this and I believe it violates CBs terms of service. Once a customer purchases, CB says that they want the customer to be able to immediately download the product.

When you set up a new publisher account at CB I believe they check to make sure your download page is actually a download page not some kind of junk like that. But after your first product in an account is approved, new products added to that account are approved immediately so I guess they wouldn't know.
