What does "I wasted a lot of time and money" mean to you?

Hey Warriors,

Small rant... but serious question.

I read a lot of threads from both newbies/experienced marketers/experts, etc. A lot of the time they are talking about a system that failed, or a soooo called SCAM, or simply a product they put together that didn't work out. When they begin to speak their frustration you see a lot of this:

"I've wasted a lot of time and money"

So, I'm curious to know, via poll.... what is considered a lot of time and money.

Just Curious...

What sparked my curiosity is someone saying they wasted a few hours and $50 trying to setup a PPC campaign, but it failed, so the PPC network is a SCAM.

waste of money - spending more money on different products, not implementing them and wasting 11s of $$$

waste of time - continuing to look for the next product to make you money online without actually having an idea of how you want to make money (ie. niche marketing, seo, etc)

It is only a waste of time and money if you did not learn anything from what you did wrong

I am sorry but it is all time. I never waste money because I always have to tell my wife why I am spending money, or at least I feel that I do. I have wasted lots and lots of time in the past though trying to manually do things that I could have easily outsourced.

And I cringe at the $2,000 courses that seem to pop up every month or two. Those would have to be the toughest way to wast time AND money

To me a waste of time+money was when I fell into the same trap and did similar mistakes over and over again...

It somehow resonates to Einstein's quote:
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Hard to answer, I chose the 6 months and $10,000 just because it seemed like the most. But if that $10,000 was invested to make you $100,000 it's not exactly wasted is it?

I think by "wasted" he means money spent without profit.

"I wasted a lot of time and money" is very subjective, and that's exactly why some marketers choose to use this kind of wording. Because if the seller says it was a ot of time and money wasted, and then they're asking for $997 because they feel that's a 'reasonable amount' then the reader (non-marketing savvy at least) will interpret this to be a FRACTION of the money wasted to get to this point by the seller.

Even if the seller wasted $49 and is selling the new product at 20 times the amount.

Likewise, if the seller says they wasted a lot of time, and then says with what you learn you can be on your way in under 40 hours, then it's commonly assumed that the 40 hours is MUCH less than what the seller 'wasted'

Even as subjective as it is... To me: ANY MONEY WASTED is a lot, because its money you have parted with, which you'll never get back.

Likewise with wasted time. If it doesn't seem it was worth it to you, then it's wasted, and as such you can't get the value of that time back.

But the most common waste of time and money combined IMHO is failure to take action (after buying information/products/etc to act upon). Second most common is failure to plan, again IMHO, and I'll tell you why.

Someone can throw $200 and 20 hours at something without a plan, and still COULD make money.

But someone who buys an offer a week, cracks them open, skims them, and never puts anything into practice, is going to find it very unlikely they will make a penny.

I choose 6 months and $10,000 because I did just that a couple of years ago. It was on an "unfranchise" healthcare staffing agency business. Alot of hard work, but alot of business things learned. Some money was made and alittle fun in the process.

It really depends on your angle of wasting time and money.
If you wasted one day and $5 for Fiverr backlinks this trying to get on
first page of google for keyword "weight loss" and next day said
that SEO doesn't work, you are not wasting just time and money
    but yourself
For me when I started my offline business, I am Social Media Manager, it
wasn't easy at start (that was about a little more than a year and a
half ago), people didn't trust Facebook and think that you can not
make money there with your business (they still believe that way
sometimes though) I struggled for weeks to make any progress.
But did I quit NO WAY, I pushed myself forward and get to where I am
    now.
    Same with my online efforts.
You will know when it's time to quit. But people try one thing only
once and determine that it doesn't work. I did't believe that you can
get bellow one cent clicks on Facebook PPC - now I am doing it
    over and over again.
Work your ass off and if it doesn't work go to something else, but before
you do that, ask yourself - DID I REALLY DID MY BEST OR THIS IS
    JUST AN EXCUSE TO QUIT???

    take care

I don't really believe that you "waste" anything.

Sure, it may be frustrating when you dwell on failed ventures, but I see everything as being just another way of learning how to potentially become successful (if you keep at it). It sucks to spend time on a project and not see the results you want, but, in doing so, you simply learn how to do things differently for the next time around.

After all, I don't know anyone who has gotten it right on their first try.

It's only a waste of money if you fail to learn and grow. Even if you're one of those who buys every product out there it will probably still be a cheaper and faster education in making money than most college degrees.

Seriously, what do people expect with this 'get rich quick' thing. Getting rich or rather well off in 5 years (which I believe all who work hard at IM can do) IS getting rich quick. Most people only have real financial freedom after maybe 20-30 years in their profession. Between my new part time consulting gig and my IM income, I make more than my parents did until they were on their last payscale and I did it in less than 3 years. I honestly believe I will be a millionaire before I turn 35 (that's 5 years).

Get some perspective people! Consider it an education which you may be lucky to make some money off before your 4 'college years' are up.
