What do you think of me creating an ebook on how to build your own computer and what each part does?

That sounds like a lot of writing, though it would be a good product for people who are interested in fixing their on PCs or adding new components to their PC.

I think that is a great niche. It would be even better if you could include videos showing each part, how to install it, etc. A lot of information for sure but I could see that being valuable for a lot of people.

I agree, it would be very beneficial to add videos and diagrams so your visual learners don't get frustrated. It could also be a great selling point when you go to create your website.

    Hey flatbro 94,
I actually think that would be a great ebook as I have always wanted a book like that. I agree with everyone else who has commented as you wouldn't just want to make a manual, but an interactive guide with videos, images, flowcharts, etc. I'm not sure how well it would do on WF, but there is a large market for building your computers from scratch, especially with hackers

The question I would have is is there a demand? PC's are cheap these days and self builders probably do it to save money.

So these people may be unwilling to pay even though they are interested in the topic.

Also, as a market does it have a back end? What's the upsell?

The whole topic is huge and there are so many options of hardware and configurations changing all the time if you get a product out it will date pretty quickly.

Having said that they say "follow your passion". If this is your passion you could overcome the challenges. DYOR.

    Stay Lucky!

A little encouragement for you can be found in the Xbox. My son's Xbox stopped reading disks recently and I jumped on Youtube to find videos about how to take it apart and clean everything. I can't tell you how useful this information was for me.

In the end, it didn't work for us. I found out that the unit was simply not working anymore and I would need to ship it to MS to get it fixed. $15 to ship one way, $150 to fix and another $15 to ship back. $180 to fix the old one, $199 for a brand new one... guess which one I opted for...LOL

I agree with others in here that video would be the icing on the cake. Reading a technical book is like stretching my bottom lip over my forehead. It's something that does not appeal to me. Videos showing me how to fix or build a computer, now that piques my interest.

    Good luck with that one!

I think maybe instead of asking us, you need to search for forums about these techie types and see if people are asking for this information. You need DEMAND for a product if you don't want to just spin your wheels.

Sounds like a good idea, but it would take some time to get it all done so what I would do like others here have said is do some research first and find out if there actually is a market for what you want to do before you go and do it. I wish some one would of made a ebook/videos on how to build your own computer back when I started doing it... would of made my life a lot easier.

Not to say that this couldn't be a good niche but...

There are already websites out there explaining how to build a PC for free. If you can't outrank them in the SE's, better come up with a better idea.

    Btw.. A+ certified here

I use to do that years ago. Did not save any money. Actually, it took a lot of time to build one. Still, I see a great niche in gamers. They want know about all the latest graphic cards and processors. Also, they are willing to pay. Yeah, as in major money.

Are you serious? A few years ago I built an Intel quad core Q6600 system for $600 that would have cost retail buyers almost triple that then. Still goes for more than I paid today, new.

      RIP Q6600

Most computer buyers however aren't willing to learn to build a PC. They will buy a tablet or an eMachine instead.

The gamers mostly know the websites that review, benchmark all the hardware and show the best deals online for that hardware.

Not saying it's not a niche that can't make money, going to need a different angle now though.
