Hey, I was wondering how you guys write your auto-responder messages so that the writing only goes down the left half or so of the page... instead of going all the way to the far right side of the page? And also, is that done in HTML or just in plain text? Lastly, if it is in plain text, do you also do a message in HTML? I seem to only ever receive emails that just go down the left-side, in the way I was explaining.

and write your message in both HTML and text, some email programs can't read html so the message appears as "gibberish" if you have text written, the auto responder sends text. If you have a text version written that is.

Thanks guys. So my question is also is this: every time I receive an email from someone whose list I'm on, it always comes in that text only format, and in a slim column to the left like I was describing above. I mean, every single time.

I just started a list and joined my own list, and because I am sending out an html message as well, I am receiving them like that. Full width and colors and the whole shebang. Does this mean people are placing a more plain text like message, and reducing the width in the html column as well?

Whether it is a text email or an HTML email you do the exact same thing. If you only want the short lines then do that when formatting both emails. What you see is what your customers will also see. In fact a lot of the emails you are receiving that you think are just text are probably html emails. They are used because you can add tracking pixels and simple text formatting in them.

You can do this in Microsoft Word. Just adjust the bar at the top to go no further than half the page, and then press ENTER on each line of the article. This will prevent the text from going all the way to right.
