If You Hire An Expert, How Long Should It Take For Them To...

...setup a Wordpress site on a new domain, (using Fantastico with HostGator for easy install) with just 3 basic pages, use a free theme, tweak a few things to make it resemble the style and have the logo of the main website it's being built to represent, and then do a little on-page SEO?

I heard of an individual who could do it in about half-an-hour, is that possible? I know marketing but nothing about building websites.

    Hi John,

Depending on how picky yu get I am sure it could be done in 1/2 an hour.

But what quality of work you would get would be questionable.

I could do the above in probably an hour, dependant on certain factors.

    Hope that helps.

What factors would make it iffy? I'm looking to outsource someone long-term, because the initial startup of my business I'll be getting clients slowly to see if who I'm hiring can handle the project, and then once referrals are coming in, and if necessary a sales team is also brought on board, then I'll expect several dozen jobs a month.

So things have to be done quick. So what can be done to improve the time, and what would make you take an hour versus 3o minutes? Appreciate your feedback

They will take maximum 10 minutes to actually do the work and charge you for an hour. Why? They have to pay bills. Most people want to pay penny's on the dollar for this kind of work because they heard from someone that you should only pay X for that type of work.

It depends on what it is you want to do as to the type of person you want to hire. If it is just setting up wordpress blogs in a prepackaged shot gun approach you can hire on an as needed basis. From your description, there sounds like not enough business for a full time worker.

I didn't read your second post above before posting my first response. Starting out, if I were you and you are just starting out from what I understand is to learn a little bit more about installing a wordpress site and then install one or two yourself to get the feel for it. If it is something you think you could do on your own at first, I would recommend doing that starting out.

As you grow then outsource to people on this site and others.

That advice is only good though, if you are going to start out slow. IF you are going to go quick and build up clients more than a few a day or even a week. Then I would look for some people now and tell them exactly what it is you want. BUT!!!! before you do that, you better actually have something for them to do or they will disappear on you rather quickly.

So, ready work right now.. hire someone. Nothing and just ideas of what you project may happen. Learn on your own and that way you have a feel for what it actually takes and can judge how the people you hire are doing. Easy to tell if they aren't doing anything or not the way they should be doing it too.

Wow thanks, this warrior forum IS full of some sharp folks. Well maybe you can fill me in if I tell you exactly what I'm doing. I want to outsource this because I'm going to be doing a lot of it continuously, and I just want someone else who knows what they're doing to take care of it.

I plan on making it a fixed-price project, but I want to make sure my expectations are reasonable.

What I'm looking to get done is buy a new domain targeting a low competition long tail keyword for a local business. Use Fantastico to install Wordpress.

Then add an appropriate theme. The website would be 3 simple pages. Then tweak the colors and style to fit the original website of the client's. So I would make it have their logo and colors, etc.

Then do on-page search engine optimization for the same keyword as the domain I purchased.

Can all that be done in half an hour by an "expert" or avid Wordpress person?

Also, is wordpress free, are free themes good enough for making micro-sites like this that aren't super important, and is there anything I'd need to pay for in this process other than the domain name, and setup/SEO services of the freelancer?

Thanks you guys are so much more knowledgeable than anticipated

Who will perform the research? If it won't be you, expect more than 30 minutes from your provider (plus additional time for unexpected server problems with the installation... as a buffer.)

Does this include accurately copying the client's fonts, css styling, other images, etc. over to these mini sites? If so, tag on even more time. EDIT: Forgot to include issues with theme bugs!

Another 30+ minute job assuming the SEO is full-throttle, but white hat. Those two qualities require a bit of forethought. SEO is much more than repeating a single keyword or keyword phrase all over a site.

It could, but at most, you would get a machine-like generated result rather than a professional result. (I.E., one that works in the search engines that you're targeting, and one that your clients will not only feel justified in paying for, but also use as a basis to recommend your services.)

Wordpress is free, however it's extremely bloated for a simple 3 page website. A static, html site sounds much more appropriate. And your costs should include hosting.

Your "micro-sites like this that aren't super important" comment, though, is concerning. Since I'm sure one of your search engine targets will be Google, you don't want to start filling it with sites with little to no value. Google won't rank sites like that, and all your efforts will have been for naught.

A wordpress installation from new hosting with nothing on it to a full wordpress install with ready available theme can be setup in under 5 minutes.

Further customization can be done as needed and depending on what exactly you need for SEO there are plugins that will do it all for you.

If all you need is a wordpress install you can do it yourself using fantastico. Login to your wordpress control panel with the provided information the installation script in fantastico gives you then install and activate the theme. Done.

This should not take more than 15 minutes total if that.

The rest is just adding your content.

If you need more custom things done, like a custom theme or plugins you can hire that out on an as needed basis.

Unless I am missing something, just to get started from what you said you want with a wordrpress installation, you can do most of that yourself without need of hiring anyone. That is the purpose behind fantastico, so anyone can setup wordpress in minutes.

This is a question better answered by the 'experts' that you interview for the job. There can be any number of reasons why a project like this is achievable in a matter of minutes, hours, days, or even weeks. Only those who have experience with your exact requirements can give you a reasonable time-frame.

IMO, asking for a Wordpress installation, a customized free theme, and SEO in 30 minutes indicates you haven't fully considered the scope of the job. So it has me wondering why such little time is an issue. If you're paying by the hour and are concerned about costs, make the job available as a fix-fee project.

The answer to your question all comes down to the setting up of your new 'theme / template' - some advanced themes make use of additional widgets and special plugins that all require setting up... I did one recently that took me 2 hours just to set up even before content or graphics were added.

The answer to your question cannot be answered correctly without the right information.

That's the difference between a 'know-it-all' and a true expert... the expert will ask the questions to ascertain the correct answers rather than just guess.

I would go to fiverr to get this done, I would do the install and adding you're logo to the header of a free theme for a single job.

All work on fiverr should take you < 15 minutes or the person listing is shooting themselves in the foot.

Going forward you should look to find people who are able to install the plug-ins that you want for $5 per plugin. For a whole blog with lots of plugins fiverr could work out expensive, but compare it against hiring someone for an hour from other sites?

Lastly if you search youtube for "How To Install Wordpress" you could actually learn how to do it yourself in < 5 minutes.

I don't see any mention of content creation - if you're doing on-page SEO then obviously you need something TO optimize. Creating content will (probably) take longer than the physical setup of the blog.

Manually it takes me about an hour. I'm sure half an hour would be possible and you can get scripts built which will pretty much do it for you in 5 minutes.

Setting up your site is not going to take long, even a beginner will only take an hour.

The time will be taken up applying content to the site and doing onpage seo - offpage seo will take even longer.

if you are going to outsourse the content and seo this is where your expence will come in as the site will need to be optimized regularly to keep it at the top of the search engines.

    hope this helps

There are some places that will literally do something that simple for you with one click install - theme and plugins included -

I've used Alex's Expert WordPress - Create A Blog before and highly recommend it -

The themes are simple but work effectivly enough if you continually add content like you should for any wordpress blog.

My site Holidays in Brisbane was built with expert wordpress and even though I havn't updated it in almost a year it still gets first page ranking on Google.com.au for the search term 'holidays brisbane'.

Going to flip it one day when I get some time, just letting it age like a good wine first

If they are going to do it in 30 minutes .. better be prepared for a 30 minutes worth of quality. When setting up SEO style blog networks we can make about 10 sites an hour but that is working from templates not having to go to your mother site and pull code.

I would say about 3 hours... shouldn't take a day or 2 to get it done.
