Affiliate Marketing Question

Did you guys find that traffic is near non-exsistent leading up to a product launch but then when the launch happens your traffic peaks (assuming you have no.1 spot)?
I only ask as my traffic is non exsistent for a product I'm promoting even tho I'm number one for the product keyword and product keyword review and it's my first ever review of a product so I want to know from you guys will I see the traffic enough to generate sales once the big guys start e-mailing their lists as I don't have one atm....
Also I've only generated 2 leads from 40 clicks for the product pre-launch which I can't explain as the keywords are super targeted.

    Hi Daniel,

do you have a link i can have a look at?
Also what keywords are you targeting? Have you done much research on them and the traffic they are producing?

    Thanks,

      Hey Michael,

Sure! The site in question is affiliatemarketingrebel.com and the individual page I'm ranking is affiliatemarketingrebel.com/auto-sms-system-review
Targeting the keywords Auto SMS System, Auto sms system review, auto sms system scam and auto sms system bonus.
Picked those as they are kinda the standard kw's customers will look through and the launch is the 29th of feb so I'd expect traffic to increase ten-fold then.

    Hi Daniel,

I'm assuming you've got a tracking set, that's good. You'll need to test your landing page, but for that you need traffic. You may get some drips from the bigger affiliates as people may want to google the product name (I'm assuing that's your keyword), but the thing with these big ones with the lists is that they offer links directly to the product's sales page or to their own landing pages. And even if their subscribers go to google and find your page, they already may have a cookie in their browsers pointing to that big affiliate who showed them the product first. In general, you should aim for your own traffic. There's plenty of information on the forum about that. Getting to the first place in Google is a good thing, but it won't do you much good if the keyword doesn't have much traffic.

Also, put an opt in form on your page and start building a list.

I plan to provide information on my review/bonus page on how to remove previous cookies to then qualify for my bonus. Slightly unethical I know but it won't hurt the big boys.

Not sure why you feel your marketing efforts would be unethical. If your site is seo'd and the customer comes to YOUR site, obviously after searching on google, then you have the right to TEACH your potential customer. Even if that means how to clear their cache of old cookies.

That is traffic you DROVE, not stole.

Now, granted, if you were STEALING their traffic in some other manner, it might be unethical, however, you are not.

Just sit back, relish in the thought that you kicked their butt, on this one at least, and do it again and again.

          Hey Robert,

I like your viewpoint However, I see it perhaps as cheating another affiliate who has worked just as hard as me to get the lead and I go and steal it from them.
Although like you said, the traffic I'm getting is my own and I use it to drive visitors to my site.

My stand point on this is if a product is in pre launch mostly only the affiliates have been searching and doing keyword research for this product. I had a similar product that I Used the google keyword tool with and the search volume was low. I suspect that was because not many people knew of the product until it began to be marketed on a bigger scale. After the launch I saw a greater search volume.

Ok, and with the greater search volume were you able to generate considerable leads and sales?
