Why Must I "Accept" Payment on Paypal?

I got a strange message from Paypal today -it was really from them, not spam. I was told money that was sent almost a month ago was "waiting" for me but I still needed to "accept" it.

This is from someone I consistently do business with, for a similar amount that he always sends me, and this never happened before. But for some reason, when I went to Paypal history, this one transaction had an "accept" button next to it. When I clicked on it, the money was added to my balance. I had thought it had already been added, but I'm not really sure to be honest.

After years of using Paypal, I've never seen this before. Does this happen frequently, and is there a reason for it?

This sometimes happens when you change something on your account like an email address. With eBay this can also happen when you make an account change.

  • I have never seen this but I have seen other stupid stuff I had a client who bought a number of times with me but never set up a paypal account himself then they made me wait for 14 before I could get paid.

I have seen a lot of people who don't like them.

That makes sense, but I haven't changed anything in the last few weeks. And I have lots of other payments that this didn't happen with. Maybe it was just a random glitch.

This happened to me with the tunecore service - they sent a payment of $200 or so that I never "accepted" and that got returned to them. This is one transaction. Have had like 20 similar transactions go fine with them.

      Still no idea what happened.

This happened to me a couple of years ago and I missed a couple of payments when I changed email addresses. They never notified me. If I were you I'd call them and ask. They're pretty easy to reach and usually very helpful. Here's the number: 888-221-1161

For now, I'm ok because all of my payments went through. But if weird stuff continues to happen, I'll definitely call them!

It might have been paid as an e-check. I got one of those once back when I used to sell on eBay. Those are strange things because normally people pay with cash or credit on Paypal, but echecks are like paper checks and they are processed differently. (So weird. )

I haven't seen one of those since 2001.

I actually had this happen twice toward the end of 2011, both from the same person… It was a client that I haven't ever had to accept payments from before (as in, hadn't had to log in and actually click the accept button).

After a couple weeks of not receiving payment, I e-mailed him and he showed me a receipt # that I had just somehow totally missed. It was weird the first time, luckily the second time I logged into my PP account to check back a couple weeks before e-mailing... Lesson learned =/
