Should I have my information product formatted?

Hi, I have an information product that is going to be a PDF. I have had it edited and proofread to make sure it reads easily, etc. Now I am considering having it formatted such as the inside of a book, so it is easier to follow and looks professional. It is not an ebook. One section is 35 pages, another 16 pages, another 12 pages and the last section is 23 pages. They are related but not directly connected.

Part of me says that I will not sell one more copy of it if I have it formatted, as the sale is over before the buyer sees it. On the other hand I know I would feel more confident that the buyer would be happy with the product if I had it formatted.

Formatting will cost me $120 on a one time basis and the product will sell for $199.

Does anyone have any thought about having it formatted or not?

Thanks, Ed

If all you care about is making the sale and really don't care what they think of your product, then you should leave it unformatted. If you don't want them to really love it and view you as a professional, thereby making recommendations to others and leaving good reviews for you, you should probably leave it unformatted.

You might very well want to take this statement to heart... A $199 dollar product that looks like a $10 product is likely to have more refunds than you can dream of than a $199 product that looks like you care about it.

To me there is no question that you should make it look as good as you can. Come on, one sale pays for it and then some...

Yea, at that price point I would definitely drop the $120 for formatting...If not looking cheap allows even one single customer to comfortably make a recommendation that leads to a sale, then that completely covers the cost of your formatting and find them. A single refund avoided by a more professional looking product is worth it, both in terms of ROI and reputation. I literally can't see a reason not to do it =/
