A Selfless Warrior Needs Your Support

I know that promoting your own WSO is frowned
upon. However, there's a very special WSO that
I think we should all consider supporting.

In just over a months time Amanda Jones will be
participating in a sponsored walk to raise cash for
a Breast Cancer Charity.. she is offering sponsorship
opportunities as a WSO

In my very humble opinion that's the kind of selfless
activity that we should support.

I agree John. Heading over there now.

I've lost way too many family members from breast cancer.

Early detection is critical because today, if it's detected early, it can be
successfully treated. My wife goes for mammograms every year.

    Thank you John.

    I have to wholeheartedly agree....

I lost my grandma to cancer not so long ago, and Amanda is doing
a great thing to raise awareness and money for the cause.

    Thanks for the reminder John.

                Can't agree with you more.

My Dad died of cancer a couple of years ago.

We too often take good health for granted and then when someone close to us gets ill we ask

"Why is there no cure for this?"

Hopefully, because of people like Amanda, we'll be asking that question less and less in the future.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I made it all 60 miles again this year. We got home last night after three beautiful days of Michigan weather which is a blessing all its own!

I'm sore and tired and I made it through with only two small blisters. But as they say--I'll take a blister over chemotherapy any day.

I'm going to try and get some of my Flip videos posted onto YouTube today. I'm dropping off my disposable camera tomorrow and will post those pics too as soon as I get them.

Only two very small ones at the end of Day Three--not bad! I'm a firm believer in the two sock plan and I love that Body Glide stuff. My toes usually swell something awful but I always bring a pair of larger shoes for the third day.

Thanks for posting this John. As you know, I recently had a scare with a lump in my breast and was a wreck for a week. While I got the all-clear, the woman I chatted up in the waiting room got the "good news" that her tumors hadn't grown anymore YET.

                      The statistics are alarming John.

In my state of NJ, over 45,000 estimated new cancer cases in 2008. Almost
1.5 million new cases in the US alone this year, and that's just reported
                      cases,

The good news is, breast cancer deaths are at their all time low ever. This
means more women are having regular mammograms and getting checkups
more often. And we're probably taking care of ourselves better.

Still, there will be an estimated 40,000 deaths from breast cancer this
                      year in the US alone.

I hope and pray to God that someday this disease will be a thing of the
                      past.

My son-in-law's dad died a year ago, 6 months from diagnosis to death......terrible loss, and just over 50 years old.

There are so many scuzzbuckets out there, that are ripping people off left and right and they get off scott-free (in this life). Amanda,

That's a wonderful charity you have undertaken. Just a month back, my mom had a breast cancer scare and those 3 weeks were hell for the family. Eventually, it was diagnosed as something else less dangerous and she is undergoing medication for that.

          Thank You Warriors!

My WSO will be ending tomorrow and I just wanted to give everyone a quick run-down of our progress. As you can see by our team donation page Carrie and I have achieved our minimum fundraising goal of $4400! If you click on each of our names you can see on the scrolling donation bar how much of our total consisted of Warrior Forum donations --> Over $2200!!!

We also have a little money left over and will be donating that to other Michigan walkers during the next couple weeks who still haven't raised their $2200 minimum (in order to participate in the walk you need to raise at least that much).

This whole experience has taught me never to underestimate the kindness of Warriors.

I received donations from the following countries:

          United States
          United Kingdom
          Japan
          Phillipines
          Canada
          Turkey
          Hong Kong
          Australia
          Singapore
          Norway
          India
          Hungary
          South Africa

I also made a lot of great new friends! It just goes to show you how much this disease affects everyone--no matter where in the world you live.

The walk will be taking place Friday Sept.26 through Sunday Sept.28. We're really hoping for good weather. You never know with Michigan! I'll be posting some pictures too afterwards and will probably take my Flip camera if there's not a good chance of rain.

BTW--I'm not sure if I posted it before, but here's a video I made from pictures of our 2006 and 2007 walks:

          Wish me luck!!

Woohoo! We have pictures! BTW--I think I forgot to mention--we had 3000 walkers this year and raised 7.2 million dollars!

Hopefully they don't load too slowly for everyone. I think if you click on the first one you can scroll through. I couldn't get them in the order I wanted.

    Here we are!

I also posted a video on YouTube of a "cheering station" walked through in Plymouth. It was more like a "cheering city." It's a bit wobbly like the Blair Witch project but it was a major highlight of our weekend. If only the whole 60 miles was like that!
