I need help from my fellow Warriors about monetizing an offer

Ok I have been offered an opportunity to write for a massive site that's going to get much bigger in the next few years. They have told me that when they publish my work, I can post a link to my site. All that is very good because some major link juice and traffic will be passed. Some stats about them:
  • The third biggest Social Media Monitoring company in the world worth over $10,000,000.
  • They create and market tools for corporate and medium sized businesses to monitor their web presence.
  • The positions they target are heads of social media, community managers, social media managers, marketing specialists in companies of 50+ employees etc.
  • They are ranked very well for at least 10 major SM keywords and the potential for growth is huge especially due to the growth in Social Marketing, and the level of investment they have available.
  • Currently ranked around 72,000 in Alexa.
  • Mainly marketing to the UK and German markets, although an office has recently been opened in the US and they plan to hit that market hard.

This is a niche I have no experience of, and while I can think of a few things that would earn big money, I have a feeling this could be absolutely huge if I play it right. So I'm opening it up to my fellow Warriors and asking you guys, how would you effectively market to this kind of traffic?

If you have an idea for a joint venture I'm open to PMs.

Oh and don't ask how I manoeuvred myself into this position because I have absolutely no clue

It looks like they were shopping for people who are willing to write articles in exchange for a link to the writer's website --- aka article marketing.

I am sorry to pop your bubble, but I am willing to bet lots of people got the same request.

What you have to ask yourself is whether doing this will move YOUR business forward.

Article Marketing can be effective if you are talking to the right audiences for your offers. So, given where you want to go with your business, does this company offer access to the right audience for your needs?

Thanks for your input TPW but it is actually a position I have been courting for a while now, they only have two other writers and it will go directly into their blog as them.

So they are paying you money to do this writing on their behalf?

No, I approached them with my offer. I understand that in effect it is article marketing, but I'll be in exclusive company. I engineered the position myself and had to prove myself on a number of occasions before they accepted my offer. This is irrelevant anyway, how the traffic comes is all that matters, not the medium on which I get it.

So the bubble aside, back on topic, can anybody help with ideas to monetize?

In article marketing, you are successful when you can match the content that your target audience wants, with a solid call-to-action to get people to do what you want them to do.

So do you have any current offers that will match this company's audience?

And if you don't, you need to find out what to offer that will match that audience.

I would say to create a report that addresses the interests of that audience, then sell it from your website. If the market is non-IM, write books and put them inside of Kindle to offer to that audience.

TPW, I don't believe I can approach this as I normally would, I sell to people across multiple niches, but I don't sell to corporate clients and they have to be handled differently than individuals.

I don't want to go about this the way I would go about selling to an individual because I'll get called out on it.

Selling a report to them won't work, nor will most other offers, bear in mind that the buyer is not going to be buying for themself, they are going to be buying on behalf of their company, so it needs to be a sound business decision, hype selling won't work.

Maybe I'd be best asking in a business forum rather than a marketing one to get an idea of what corporate clients buy.

Thanks nontheless, you're definitely helping me crystallize ideas

I am not at all suggesting that you should use hype selling.

I am simply saying that you have the perfect platform where you can sell yourself, now you need to figure out how to turn that into a cash payment into your bank account.

If you follow the Sherpa example, you will still sell reports, but you won't call them reports... Instead, you will call them, "white papers".

When dealing with corporate clients, you will want to sell white papers or consulting services. Either one would be a good model for you.

If the company is not paying you to write the articles, you will need to use your own genius to figure out how you will get paid. If you don't get paid, you will soon lose the incentive to keep moving forward. And if you quit, it will be an opportunity wasted and lost.
