How to monetize my site? about 1000 members.

Hello Guys,

I need a little bit of advise.

I have a site with about 1000 members, and about 30 new sign ups a day... (I have been advertising using Facebook)

It's a dating site --- but I have very few members biting to sign up for a paid membership... (priced $29/month - $39 and $49)

Any ideas in how to monetize the site would be appreciate.

I would encourage you to think past the signup. What can you do to get people participating more. If all they are doing is signing up, that may not be enough for a dating site.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Hey DvDuval... I guess the only way for them to participate more is to have the site free so they can have access to all the tools... thanks.

Starting from a small model I would consider making membership free and montetizing your site with adverts, maybe adult. And then when you have many more members start thinking about the paid service option.

      Hey Beven,

That is something that I have seriously been considering...but monetize with what? Thanks.

Try sign up to a site like AffiliateWindow, they have many CPA offers on their site that you can place on your site. The ads are catogorised so you'll be able to find an offer that fits the look of your website.

Get them to join for free as standard members, but do what a lot of sites do, restrict their access to contact potential dates unless they upgrade to paid membership

            Hey Kweb,

That's what I have right now... They are able to browse the users, but if they want to chat, send kiss or anything else they have to upgrade...

A dating site is a bit difficult to get up and running as it needs to have a decent, actively engaged, user base to attract new members. However you need to attract new members to grow a decent user base - a bit of a catch 22.

    A few suggestions:

    1. Ensure all sign ups tie into your auto responder - grow the list and start engaging it.

    2. Setup an affiliate program that ties into paid membership - give a high payout to start (75-90% commission) and get in contact with people who have experience promoting within the dating niche. This is a great way to quickly build your user-base and bring in some $$ to re-invest into marketing the site - Quick expansion is key.

I'm not sure the exact details about your site but I would consider growing your membership a bit more before monetizing it yet through paid memberships. I forgot where I read this but I heard that dating sites tend to lose members rather quickly.

But with that said, I would try to monetize it first with adsense or another forms of advertisement, just so that you're trying to break even with hopes to turn a profit in the future

With a dating site it's obviously important to build a large active user base before putting a hefty price point up. Maybe run a promotion for free sign up AND a reward if they invite their friends into the system?

Or run a $1 trial? I've heard in the dating niche that $1 trials work well. I can't say that personally as I'm not in that niche but that's what I've heard .

      Thanks Jon...

I have to wait and see what is holding people back... For instance today I had 82 sign ups... and so far no one have ordered any membership yet... It might be that I just have to wait to have a consider number of people in the site.... They are at least signing up to browse the site... so there is at least some interest... I might have to do a better job in Email Marketing the current members.
