Does Banner Advertising Work?

Hi Warriors,

The reason i ask this question is because I just about to start testing some ad buying and wanted to get the experience from the warriors.

I'm currently sending traffic through Google Adwords and its converting...

I've tried the Google Network with varying results, so am dubious to test banner ads.

Can Anyone Help...

Do you see banners ads on any websites?

    There's your answer.

People don't just throw away money for the hell of it.

Search Google for your most popular keywords. Find websites with banner ads on them. Contact those websites and negotiate a good rate - less than you would pay on Google Adwords.

    YES and NO!!

Yes - if you find a good website that gets tons of traffic in your niche and you get to place a banner that links to a highly targeted offer then yes it will work.

No - if you place a banner on a website that is totally unrelated to you niche.

    Hope that helps.

    PS
. in order for the banner to work, it must have a clear call to action that appeals to the targeted audience!

It depends on where they're at. I run a few different banners on a few sites. Some work, and some don't. Most of the time they pay for themselves very quickly.

What networks do you run traffic from and do you drive traffic in the IM niche.

I'll also post in this forum all the sites im testing

My advertisements are specific to web hosting, since I'm a web host. I run a few ads on buysellads.com as well as a few other forums & blogs. Buysellads.com is the only network I use. The other forums I contact directly & blogs are networked contacts.

I recommend trying to use buysellads.com if you can afford it. Adwords is terrible to use and probably wouldn't work at all... don't use it!

I have never used adwords, and don't plan on it. Buysellads can be tricky at first to find a good site that's affordable to advertise on and actually get traffic.

Banner advertising can be profitable if your banner is eye catching and has a strong focus as to what you are trying to get someone to do, if you have a dull or generic banner chances are it will not very often get clicked on.

Biggest thing with Banner Ads is to be congruent. You need to split test your Banners and make sure you have a converting landing page or sales funnel after it has been clicked on.
It's a big game and not for the weak at heart.....

As everyone on the forum is potentially my target market what headlines would interupt your search and click a banner...

    I'll Go First

Headline: Are You Alone? Click Here...

Think about the product or offer that you are promoting! What problem does it solve, why would people want that product? How can people benefit from that product?

Make your headline speak to the problem that people are having and the will click through.

Unless you are targeting a 'singles dating site', am not sure that headline will cut it.

That would not get me to click. It sounds like a tacky dating ad.

It depends if you are paying per thousand impressions or per click.

If you are paying per click then you do NOT want to use a headline like the one you suggested above as you will end up paying for a whole lot of clicks from people who are not interested in what you have to offer. If you are paying on a thousand impression basis then your objective should be to get as many people as possible to click your ads and that is when you can start getting a little more creative and using pattern interrupts.

oh yes...millions are made just off banners alone.....don't let ANYONE tell you banner advertising is dead!

It's all about testing....seeing what banner will convert with what audience..what offer....just keep testing....you think the guys that are making big change off of banners tried one banner for a few days....and if it didn't work said..oh well...lets try adsense to make money instead....no they kept at it..testing....changing..until it worked....you can make major money in just about any area online...you need to master the area you are in...and it will produce for you...master it!
