Whats wrong with this picture? You tell me.

Ok, today I decided to try Stumbleupon Paid discovery. I was really excited since I could get loads of people to my new site for just 5 cents per person.

i went ahead and signed up, put my info in and hit save. Within literally 2 seconds (and without my site being approved yet) I apparently had 96 visitors to my site from SU.

How can this be? My site isn't even approved yet. They say it takes a bit (hours or maybe even a day) to be approved. What is going on here? Is Stumble falsifying numbers or what?

Strange. And they are charging you 96x5 cents, I assume? Well, I'd first check Google Analytics assuming you have it installed. See how long the people stayed on your site. If it's an average of 0 seconds (meaning pretty much "fake" traffic, in my opinion), there's a big issue.

What is wrong with this picture is you think paying for a service like this is going to help you at all.

Here is a hint: Don't waste time with "services" that try and send traffic to your site - The traffic will never convert, the people won't engage with you or buy any products.

The only winners are the people who run the services.

Most likely all of it is "bot traffic" - Generated by computers.

The "old fashioned way" is the way that will work and always will work - Pump out decent content and engage with people.

But Stumbleupon Paid Discovery is supposed to be similar to Google's Adwords. Except people don't need to "Click" on your ad. They are just directed there when stumbling. Right?

Is that even legal? I mean, do they communicate that they were "paid" to send them to your site?

Seems I was a bit quick to judge - Appears they might be a more official service - I was referring more to those other disreputable services you see being "promoted" around the place.

With that said I would say it seems very strange to receive that many visitors so quickly - clearly something is going on here. Due to the timeframe it seems almost impossible they could have been true visitors.

No, you weren't - "reputable" isn't always the same as truthful.

In the long run, it's always best to dig in, work the trenches, and then leverage your results as you go.

By the way, the big G is still the house - and the house always wins. Without strategies, and appropriate training PPC traffic will empty your bank account faster than you can say "lipstick"
