How long did it take before you started earning good money online?

It seems like this question has a different answer for everyone.

Some seemingly earn big, instantaneous money everyday. Some worked their butts off for a long while before seeing results.

So how long did it take for you? I have only earned a little bit from my blog, but that was only because a couple of companies asked me to write articles for them. I have yet to actually automate my business such that I have a system.

It took me a long time before it clicked for me. It's all about finding something that works and then scaling it up.

To answer your question though, it took me about 2 years to make a decent income. And then 1 more year to finally start making some serious bank.

First & second month can see some small income but not consistent.

Start making consistent income after one year.

Great income after 3 years :-)

I started in about mid 2006. I have still yet to see significant income from online endeavors. I keep going, perhaps foolishly.

It took months of part time work before it paid off.

It's like anything - Remember when you started your first job? Probably you were nervous, had a lot to learn and simple jobs seemed to take ages to perform and you needed to ask for help and learn.

Overtime things got easier and probably you got to the stage where it was easy.

No different in Internet Marketing. Things can take a while to learn in IM and many people have unrealistic expectations of what they will earn when they start.

In many ways lots of people expect the CEO wage when they are a newbie and have no real knowledge or skills.

The more you know and learn, the more you realise what else you need to know/learn.

    Remember these steps!

Unconscious incompetence - You don't know you dont have the skills you need.
Conscious incompetence - You know that you dont have the skills you need but don't know how to get them.
Conscious competence - You now you have the skills, but it takes a lot of time and thinking to apply those skills - It doesn't happen automatically.
Unconscious competence - You can apply the skills literally on auto-pilot without thinking.

People can be stuck in any of the first 3 categories for years in anything, including IM.

It's only when you reach the 4th level that things really start happening for you in my experience.

    Good luck!

    Cheers

    Tim

It took me a few months working long hours and then i got it, my wife then joined forces with me and we went from strength to strength setting up sites in several niche areas

We did not touch the IM niche for a few years until we knew we could practice what we preach.

I would say between getting the first payment of $27 to making $900 in a day took around 12 months, once the ball starts to roll you still have work to do to fine tune it.

There is work involved and you do need to learn new skills to succeed online.

    All the best

When I was 15 I came into the freelance game strong and I've been making money consistently with that for about six years now. As far as internet marketing, to be honest my first two years that I was "into" it I just took notes and made to-do lists. This year when I really started taking action, I've already set myself on track to make six figures before the year is out. It's ALL about action taking and most people never do enough of this.

I was lucky where I started earning some money in just a couple of weeks. This was a few years back and I wouldn't exactly call it white hat.

Throughout the years this is what I learned:

The key is not so much as focusing on what you don't have, but FOCUS ON WHAT YOU HAVE.

You should choose your IM model based on YOUR STRENGTHS and YOUR ASSETS. That is the quickest way for you to make lots of money.

There are hundreds of IM strategies and models to choose from. Just because a strategy made millions for someone else does not mean that I will do the same for you.

The key is to PLAY BY YOUR STRENGTHS and TALENTS. Choose the IM biz model that speaks to you / that is close to your heart / or one that interest you the most.

    All the best!

It took me a few months to start seeing some income from my sites but it I had to fix a lot of mistakes before I got my sites to earn some serious dough. I had to really focus on the quality on my sites and make sure I have good, consistent SEO to make sure that they keep earning me good money.

After 3 years I made my serious money which was 100$ in full :p.... Then when I came to know some tactics of selling and buying it raised pretty much.....

It all depends on circumstances... If you remain focused you make money, if you deviate chances start to shrink as well....

It was after a long time but made doubled my blood when I saw that much amount for the first time earned from internet

I was lucky - was in the right place at the right time with the right product and made money from the beginning (that was back in 1997).

And I broke the google code back in 2004. That was grand.

Returned seriously to IM September of 2011....and made money from the beginning because of all the knowledge I had gained during the previous years.

It was definitely a learning process....

Still working on it, but having Fiverr on my plate right now is taking up time for me to branch out to the project I wanted to work on. Sooo...I'm still in the initial stage, but earning money with one method

I got into internet marketing in September/October of last year, so I'm still making my progression. Hopefully my results will be better by the end of the year, at least by a little bit!

It took me around 6 months to start earning a steady income online.

I think it really depends on where/how you start. For example, someone with extensive programming knowledge can easily create a software or something and the $$ roll in for them within days of launch.
On the other hand, someone who wants to learn SEO and webdesign etc will have a long course

I would like to extend aldentan's question out and ask not only how long did it take you but what price point was the product/service you were offering?. I'm wondering whether sticking to a lower price point while learning the ropes is better than a higher one or if it really matters.

There is no logical about the exact time. It depends about the niche you you pick up, the methods you use, the knowledge that you have and so on.

In my situation, it took me almost 2 years for learning IM and I made tiny income such as $200/month several months after implementing what I leaned. For more than 3 years I am making a decent income by selling products and being IM consultant for people that are interesting in making money online.

      About 4 - 5 months.

My first 3 - 4 months I earned almost nothing from my own internet marketing (though I did earn a bit from writing for other people), because I made absolutely every mistake you can make, had no idea what I was doing, didn't have enough experience or judgement to be able to differentiate between information and misinformation, and allowed myself to be guided by people who didn't know what they were talking about.

It was partly by sheer luck that I managed to rectify all that, too.

    Hi aldentan,

Earned my first dollar online through affiliate marketing.

That was way back in 2009.

That was also some sheer luck involved when I was promoting
    clickbank products.

After the next 6 months, I started to building a list in the IM
niche and managed to earn a consistent income of around $500
    per month by promoting offers.

So, I continue to go on...and decided to create my first ever IM
product in early 2010. That was then my online career starts to
pick up in mid 2010. From then on, it motivates me to go on creating
more IM products and promoting offers to my list, which has increased
my online income to approximately 2000 to 3000 per month.

It might not be a big sum, but it does helps a lot when it comes
to family expenses and other committments.

I will continue to work hard and hopefully my journey to IM path will
motivate and inspire you to work towards your goals.

    Hope it helps...
    Raymond

Two weeks - but that was in 1999 when Alta Vista indexed your site within 2 weeks. After reading Ken evoys book I hit Number One spot right when it got indexed and had good income straight away. It's funny i still have that site and it still make me good income.

But it's a different story now. Last year i build a site and within 6 months it did $700 a month with about 100 articles and not much link building but traffic went down and it's doing half now, but haven't done much link building yet.

Great sharing guys! Thanks! Love the inspiration.

As much as I would love an easy out or some form of "magic pill" to come about, I guess at the end of the day, you just got to work real hard for it.
