Ranked on Page 1 But No Traffic

Hi just a quick question thanks in advance. I've got on page one for 2 keywords ranked #10 and #3 respectively.

on the keyword ranked #10 it has 3600 exact global searches monthly. so even ranked #10 on a 2% clickthrough rate i should see 2-3 uniques a day. i've been ranked #10 for 3 days and i have had 0 uniques...

on the second keyword ranked #3 i get 12,100 exact global searches a month 8k of these come from hong kong. i'm ranked #3 on google.com.hk (logging out of google and clearing my cache). i'm only getting 3 uniques a day for this keyword...

does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? is the google keyword traffic tool wrong, is there another tool i can use to check the traffic? thanks in advance!

The answer you seek depends so much on the actual niche that it is not possible to answer.

Some searches (and therefore searchers) will be be persistent in their search and will try every link for the first 5 or even 10 pages of results. Some will just click the top result.

It just depends on the niche.

Another thing you might have to consider is that for some keywords the number one practically gets ALL the traffic because it is a known brand. Just as an example, type in any keyword with the term "wiki" at the end and nobody will even scroll through the rest of the page because the number 1 will give them the exact answer to their question... This is something nobody tells you but holds true for quite some keywords... So maybe that is your problem... And yes, the keyword is not always getting the traffic that Google indicates (for instance because the trend shows a certain month having peak traffic). You can check the number one for your keyword in Adplanner and see how much traffic they are getting for real... Anyway, just a few suggestions to check out here... Hope that helps.

Remember to logout of your Google account, or use another computer before checking your rank. Or you can use a 3rd party tool.

It probably means that google's search data is inaccurate in this case. That's my closest assumption.

Hi sonic, I used to get the same issue with you as well with one of my website. My keyword has 1300 searches on Google, and very low comp, so I built website based on this keyword, ranked in page #2 no.1, but just 3 human visits!!! *grrrrrr*

I checked Google keyword tool regularly, and found this same keyword shows the same "1300 searches" number over and over, even after 4 months!

Lesson learned : Please notice here that keyword data on google keyword tool is NOT REAL-TIME. I then researched on the web about the accuracy of Google keyword tool, and I found a website (I forgot the URL, sorry) stated that the data Google stored in his keyword tool could be from 10 months ago (!!!). . 3600 search you see might be a data Google collected from 10 months ago....So can you imagine it's easily outdated.

Since then I tried to drive traffic from non-organic i.e. forum and guest blogging. And that;s how I finally solved the traffic problem...

However, please correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not SEO expert btw...and most of my traffic doesn't really come from Google).

    =======================

edit : one thing to add..... have you checked your rank using Scroogle?
It will actually tell you your current position on Google. I got if you typed your website name so often, Google will make it on page 1.

a couple of things come to mind.....
1st check the first page of google and see what the excepts of the other sites are saying....is your excerpt compelling enough to have someone want to take a further look on your site?

the second is (this is the most common) people are not really looking for your topic (key words)

when choosing a keyword always check the commercial value not just the competition and searches.

i look for two things when evaluating a search term.
    1. when i type in my prospected key word i must see it in the automatic suggestion tool as i am typing. if i do not then this tells me there is not enough people searching for this exact term.

    2. all of the ad positions must be filled when my search term is been completed in the search. if not i look for another term with a better commercial value. there are to many "good terms" to wast time and effort on.

    good luck!

guys thank you all for your kind responses.

i'm using serpfox and also sescout to check my rankings so i'm pretty sure it's accurate.

i think some of your suggestions make sense its a branded keyword name say something like microsoft so i guess it makes sense that everyone clicks on #1. however i would still imagine that i should grab some traffic ranked 3rd but i guess not...

codenaam: i will use your suggestion to check Adplanner. i've never heard of it but will google it.

I had the same problem, the issue sometimes is not ranking on page itself, it is also who are linking to you. Try to build backlinks from sites that will generate you traffic on its own eg, article directories, youtube, facebook, twitter, document sharing sites such as scribd, slideshare etc. This sites will send you traffic on it's own. Don't make the mistake of relying on just google for traffic, it's like having all your eggs in on basket.

Yes, perfectly right! Let Google perform its task. At the same time you should aim for traffic from other sources as pointed out. These sources include backlinks from your own articles and of course blogs.

Log out of your google account and open a private browsing window / incognito window.

    Go to Google

    Check your ranking in there.

I'd also look at the meta title and meta description of your home page because if they are rubbish, no one will click through. You've gotta make your website appear appetizing!

I'd also doubt Google's keyword data. I've got websites at position 1 for keywords that apparently have 2000-3000 exact match searches a month and I get under 100 visits a month from it.

    All the best

    Jason

Ok I never visit a 10th link. The top 3 are the ones that get the traffic. I do have a client who is currently ranked 9 for her kitchen company but it is only a few visitors daily and that is with a 1k exact search. Depends on what the keyword is, but I would never get to a number 10 and definatly not page 2

I have a website ranked first page #3 as well. My niche is about a branded company. 9,900 local search but I get one digit amount of visitors daily only. This is frustrating. I guess the branded company is getting all the visitors.
