Newbie almost ready to take an action with list building

Hi warriors!

I have been reading this forum and e-books about IM for about 3 months now and I'm really excited to take an action, so the issue is that I'd like to build a list. Not just becouse everyone says that the money is in the list but becouse I think it makes more sense that you are not dependent on Google.

Does this make any sense? A newbie starting his IM career with building a list?

I thought I'd offer something valuable free that I'd get people to my list, the usual way. I think writing an e-book would be the best choice, maybe use some PLR products but mostly do it on my own, make it unique. I'm just wondering that what niche would I write that book about? IM? Health? I could write almost about everything, with what niche I could make most money?

Thanks for your answers, I appreciate them a lot,

omh

Hey dude, really you can't ask us what niche you should go into. That's something that you will have to decide yourself. That said I wouldn't try and go straight into IM niche, if you had absoultley no idea how to drive would you start selling driving lessons? Think about it. What are you good at? What do you know alot about? So many things can be monetised on the internet, start with an interest of yours and then build from there. But the process for once you have your niche is like you say.

Good job and good luck for the future, hope you find success!

      Ok, thanks for the answer.

Can you tell me what niches should I avoid?

It's hard to say as there are so many, but basically just do a niche where you know what your talking about it will make life a hell of a lot easier, trust me. I just went ahead with a project at the end of last year about Chinese cooking and I don't really know a great deal about it, which is making it pretty tricky; not impossible, just tricky. I hope that you can learn from my mistake and make your niche an easy and interesting one. Say for example you like computer games (Stab in the dark), start playing an online one or something then just start marketing prouducts to any friends you make there, hangout it forums, it will just happen naturally if you are interested in it...

Well I'm very interested in IM and I'd like to write about it and learn things at the same time but it isn't a good idea becouse I'm a newbie, is it?

If so, I think I'm still going to find something else to write about. Thanks for the answer btw!

Personally I don't think that this is something that any of us should encourage really? He's asking us questions about IM and your telling him to teach others. Blind leading blind is not good I don't think.

Then again you probably are making more money from internet marketing than me so i'm not one to preach. Just to me it seems fundamentaly wrong.

Personally I was going to try the IM niche and actually began - Take a look if you care to : Internet Marketing | Online Business | Marketing Tips , But I actually decided not to just repeat what I had been told by others but to take note on what I do over the year and slowly but surely scale it into a kind of diary of what I did and make products from it later. Which is what I would suggest you do.

But really, there's alot better people at IM on this forum, so don't take my opinion too seriously, but always listen to all angles and consider there reasoning.

Hope this helps, thanks to all.

I think list building is a good place to start, because you can have a database of potential customers when you refine your niche. However, I would definitely send them free info on a regular basis (ideally weekly) before hitting them up with "buy my stuff" offers.

Pick a niche you know AND like.

    Good luck!

You can make a lot of money in any niche as long as there is a demand for the information/products and people are willing to pay. Do a little research and try to decide for yourself first, what fits best for you. This is a great way to start however, you can build a really strong business around email marketing. If you need any help just add me on skype or PM me when you have enough posts. Good luck!

Yes building a list is the way to go. Since you are new, I would suggest solo ads (this means you pay someone to mail your offer to their list).

This way you can test out different offers in different niches.

I suggest choosing your niche first and sticking with it for long enough to give it a good chance.

As far as what you should write about to offer to a build a list. Make sure you are interested in whatever niche your choose and you really enjoy working in this niche.
This way you will be able to write on the subject from a place of joy and passion.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions

And there's nothing wrong with doing it in the internet marketing niche either.

Some may disagree with me, but most of the successful marketers on this forum rely on the IM niche itself. Personally I don't approve of that but that's just the way that it is.

Even a big list builder that I know told his list that he was only successful when he started coaching others. Weird huh? Sounds incestuous doesn't it.

Anyway, I'd advise you stick to the IM niche. Unless you already have a good source of traffic, it is going to take you a long time to build up a list in other niches. It is much easier to build in the IM niche. Try other niches later.
I'll agree with Chris on this one and add a little more. Another side benefit to building a list in the IM niche will be what you will learn. You don't want to send your list misinformation, so you better do your homework on the information you send your subscribers. You will, naturally, pick up quite a bit of knowledge about IM while you are doing your research to teach to your subscribers. I believe this will greatly decrease the typical time it would take to learn the nuances of Internet Marketing.

Hi omh I think it is very smart of you to start building a list. And you have the first part right offer your potential list something free to get on your list. Send a couple of follow up emails with more free stuff or good info that relates to what they signed up to your list in the first place for.

When it comes to picking a niche check out the different niches on ClickBank, also use the google keyword tool see the search volume and competition for certain keywords. One more thing you don't have to limit your self to digital products amazon offers a good affiliate program. I have seen other marketers that have build list around this as well. Good luck.

I noticed that its easier to build a list when you are in self-improvement niche. Try providing good quality video you can as well get an opt-in rate in that area.

    Hi there

Trust me, you are not yet ready to build a list !!

Start working on your niche research, take time in this area, anyone who tells you to spend 5 minutes because you can sell to any niche are wrong.

If you spend 2 months on getting this part of your business right then it will save you ten fold over time.

Get the niche right 1st, and there are a few crucial elements you need to be looking at to make sure your niche fits right, test test and test the market.

Get this right now and you are off to a flying start.

Pretty contradictory information about list building in this thread. I have to think about this, but I would still like to build a list than set up a niche site.

      Thanks for the answer though!

Yes, you can start your IM career building a list, you would want to do that eventually anyway.

If you are going to spend time and money getting targeted traffic, you should send those people to your own pages first and capture them. So you are on the right track.

As for what niche to go into, there are experienced marketers that will say they can go into any niche and do well.

However, I have not seen that to be the case with newbies and I think that if most newbies don't see at least a little progress pretty quickly, they will give up or try something else.

I also want to mention, that imho, market, niche and keyword are the most important steps and that most courses or advice for newbies totally ignors this step.

First step, market research. It is much easier to sell something if people are already buying it.

Then, niche research, how to find a part of that market to sell to and finally keyword research to determine what words are people typing into search engines to find those products when they are ready to buy and not just get information. Look for keywords with more than 2500 exact match global monthly searches and less than 25000 competition.

There is also a lot of information about all of that on Google, this forum and I go over it a lot more in my stuff, too.

Once you have the niche figured out, either find a PLR product or write your own ebook, put up a squeeze page and start your autoresponder series.

The email that is opened the most is the first one so make it good.

Then once you have it all set up, watch your analytics and tweak, tweak, tweak but just one thing at a time so you know that was they thing that made the difference.

This can sound time consuming and the first site I put up took me a couple days after about a week of research. I started making sales in a short time and then more and more. Once signups and sales were consistent, I started over, found another niche and did it again and then again.

I hope that helps you. Good luck and now, take action, get going.

If you can find a hot niche that you happen to have knowledge about or something that you're passionate about, it will make the whole process easier when creating the e-book. Adding your own experiences, if possible, seems to make the "connection" you want in any niche market. Best wishes!

You can start a list in any niche you desire, just make sure that it's one that people are currently spending money in. You also don't need to reinvent the wheel so it could be as simple as joining a list in your target niche, finding products they promote and "emails of value" that they are sending to get ideas, and then creating your own similar products or having them made for you to send to your list.

Go for what makes you happy.

The important thing is to just get started.

It's hard to break into the IM niche if you haven't already made money so I would suggest trying something different, making some money with that niche, then going into the IM field.

      Good luck
