My site is getting a high bounce rate, what am I doing wrong. I have changed the content and move a few things around. Done a heat map just want the eyes of the experts to tell me what I am doing wrong.

If you have done a heat map, it should show you that most eyes go straight to that HUGE BLACK header and stay there for a minute flabbergasted. It shocked me.

Also, I have to scroll down the page to find ANYTHING other than how to contact you. Make it more about benefits to the consumer, add testimonials if you can, but get SOMETHING SHARP looking above the fold that sells the consumer immediately.

      Best,

      Robert

Brutal honesty here - first, get a professional writer to rewrite everything. There's nothing wrong with your personality being in there - that's great. But poorly structured sentences, paragraphs that don't flow, and grammatical errors will turn people off.

It doesn't matter if you're the best window cleaner in the world. If your site isn't easy to read, nobody will read it and they won't see you as professional. (Stupid, but the truth.)

Second, your first page is too much about you. You have to make it about the PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER. Why THEY need clean windows, why THEY need someone who knows the area, what is in it for THEM. Prospects don't care about you, they care about what you can do for them.

Once you have their attention regarding what you can do for them, then you can have an "about" page that is all about YOU. By the time someone reaches your "about" page, they will care about you somewhat, and will want to know more about this person/company they're thinking about hiring.

Finally, while there is nothing wrong with your site being a blog, your up-front page needs to look less like a post and more like a sales letter. (About THEM.) People looking for window cleaners don't want to read blog posts right away, they want to know if you're someone they want to hire.

Again, once that decision is made, having regular blog posts (that hopefully they are subscribed to) will remind them of your presence and hopefully get them to call you back.

Sorry if that was a little harsh, but those things jumped out at me right away.

Have you looked at the sites of two or three of your most successful competitors to see what they're doing and how you can improve on some of their methods?

Lindsey has some really good points. Add a couple of small graphics to the text and give a little white space so it is easier to read. Right now it feels very crowded.

Most sites have an 80% bounce rate.

You are doing better than most, so keep doing those things you are doing right, and try to eliminate those things you are doing badly.

Where are you getting your traffic from?

    How is it converting?

If you are getting conversions then I wouldn't change anything drastically. I'd just tweak it.

I put up a blog for a friend of mine and it was super basic, nothing fancy at all.

A few months later, his brother told him how unprofessional his blog looked and offered to have a friend of his create him a great blog and re-write the content for him.

I advised him to keep the blog I created and keep all the content he wrote exactly how it was because it was converting..... and to wait and see.

I admit, the new blog his brother had created for him looks really great and very professional and has a lot more features. However, to this date, the basic blog I put up for him still gets many more conversions.

Bottom line, it is about conversions and what works to make you money.

That is why before you change anything, you should split test any new front page against your existing front page and see if there is any improvement.

I just had a quick look... I'm coming from a design point of view, I didn't read the content, but, as suggested this should be quality.

I've been building sites since 1997, not saying I'm the best, but I know what I'm talking about

      Ok... here's what I recommend.

      1. Tighten up your sites header/banner. You're loosing a lot of realestate here... bring the size of the image height down, move the search & social links to the side nav, decrease the size and weight of the nav menu text... it's wrapping on a new line!

      2. Move your nav bar to the right... people start reading from the left.

      3. Video above the fold. One of the best ways to lower bounce rate is to have some quality video on your site. Make sure it's visible without scrolling down (above the fold)

You can either have this made, look on warrior for hire section, or just find a relevant video on youtube and embed it. Use the youtube lyte plugin, loads faster.

      4. Break your content into more paragraphs, easier on the eye.

      5. Use more pictures in your content, with your keyword alt tags of course.

      Best of luck

Blogs typically have higher bounce rates than normal sites. 67% is respectable and I wouldn't worry about it too much!

    Um... *cough*

Satan called, he wants his dirty windows back
So last night I was reading and I heard my phone ring. I answered it and it happened to be Satan. He said that he had had it with all this window cleaning. "What in the Sam hill are you talking about Satan?!" I replied...

    WTF

Here I am being honest and not trying to be harsh:

If you're trying to market a local service, I wouldn't put the blog as the first page. Maybe this is just me, but if I were interested in hiring a window cleaner for a certain job, I wouldn't be too interested in reading a blog. I'd want to know what services a company provided, what sort of reputation they have, and the cost. You're making it too hard for a prospective customer to find that info. I'm not surprised your bounce rate is so high. My bounce rate for local business pages is typically around 30% with great conversions. So 60% may be great for a blog, but you want local customers, right?

(quick aside, I wouldn't write "Satan" anywhere on the site. You turned me off right away.)

    Here's what I would suggest:

Main Page - think Portal site and answer this question with easy-to-see/scan images text: "what do you do?"

    ie:

    1. Page One Headline = "Most Experienced Window Cleaners in Pittsburgh"

    Just below headline =

    - Residential Window Cleaning
---> quick bullet point list of what this service entails
    - Commercial Window Cleaning
---> quick bullet point list of what this service entails
    - Industrial Window Cleaning
---> quick bullet point list of what this service entails

    Right sidebar - clean navigation

    - Home
    - Residential Window Cleaning
    - Commercial Window Cleaning
    - Industrial Window Cleaning
    - Testimonials (have a couple on the first page as well)
    - Blog (do not have recent blog posts or anything else blog related on the first page - you want people to call you, not read)
    - Contact Us

Visitor can easily navigate to the next page according to which service they want / need.

    2. Next Page...

prospective customer can review a simple explanation of the type of window cleaning they're interested in, your rates, turnaround time, another testimonial perhaps and a clear call to action ---> CALL US.

I think you get the idea. I do this with all my local clients and it works like a charm.

Get that blog off the main page. Customers don't need to read that stuff. Your bounce rate will seriously hurt your rankings if you don't get it lower.

    Hi there,

There are a few things that I can suggest that may help increase conversions. Also note, it isn't clear what exactly you would like the page viewer to do. Would you like them to buy a package online, contact you, or enroll.

    This should help you:

    1. Have a phone number of the company on the top right.

    2. Have the title header a lot clearer, and include your slogan. (I noticed it's in white unclear writing on the top right and the photo's change with every refresh).

    3. Have an opt-in box where you can follow up with them through either phone, email or both. (You can have a giveaway, or you can have them click a type of service they are specifically looking for ie: roof cleaning, window cleaning, etc.).

    4. Have customer testimonials visuals, (video, written, or photo's).

    5. Create a video of your service people in action (people LOVE video's to see exactly what they're getting).

Keep in mind that we have literally 3 seconds to catch a potential prospects interest. So use it wisely. It's always helpful to look at big name brand company websites to get ideas from as well.

    Enjoy!

67% is better than average. Focus on conversions now. I have seen many sites with 80% bounce rates making 2 to 3% in conversions...many of which converted less when the site was tweaked and bounce rate was lowered.

Bounce rate increase when anybody opens a webpage and then close it within few moments or seconds. Then the bounce rate will be high. For this you can make new theme for your home page.

I would suggest you focus on your traffic source. Where are your traffic coming from? Are they highly targeted? I've found that bounce rate is directly related to traffic quality. When people want what you are offering, they will hang around and explore your site more.
