Whois... Hiding info when registering?

I'm thinking of making several websites but needed advice when registering domains and whatnot. I've resistered a domain once before, but it shows all my personal infomation in whois, is there something out there you guys do when registering for a domain to hide this infomation? do you put it under a different account or something? any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Very easy:

Your provider SHOULD provide you with the option for domain privacy.

For example, I use HostMonster -- when I register a domain I am given the option to pay an extra fee (yearly) for domain privacy. When somebody does a "whois" of the domain I purchased, all they get is the contact information for HostMonster.

You can read some general information about this here:

You should use Private WHOIS service. Internetbs.net gives it for free.

If your domain is .us then there is no way to protect your information. It have to be public.

if your domain with any other extension for a small fee you can hide your information and will looks to be registered under your domain registrar

Private registration is the way to go. You can get it for free for the first year on a domain registration with NameCheap. You have to pay to renew it after that, though.

When you get a business licence, your state will put that same personal information online exactly the same way.

You don't get to run a business AND be anonymous. It doesn't work that way.

You can rent a mailbox with a street address. Be warned though if they charge per mail item - junk mail operators may start sending you unwanted mail you have to pay for.

Private registration will hide all your personal details - that will be much cheaper option. Unless you are registering loads of domains.

Go with Namecheap for sure if you are worried about that, because it is free with every domain purchase. Don't go with GoDaddy. Those punks want to charge you for everything under the sun.

If you dont want to use the WHOIS privacy protection, just register the domain with a PO Box.

Thats what I did.. Think of it this way:

PO Box is 20 bucks for 3 months (or is it 6 months? I forget.. but its something like that)

WHOIS protection is around 7-8 dollars per year, per domain. There ARE some registrars that provide it for free though, like NameCheap.

So it would be cheaper to just buy a PO Box & register using that if you plan on having multiple domains..

So pretty much - you could either pay:

A - 21 dollars for WHOIS protection on 3 domains

B - 20 dollars for either 3-6 months for a PO Box and use it to register unlimited domains..

Pretty easy choice if you ask me. Plus if you use an autoresponder, its a good idea to have a PO Box anyway, since CANSPAM requires an address at the bottom of each email.

I buy all my domains through NameCheap or name.com, with the FREEWHOIS coupon code. They've both been great companies to me and hide my whois info.
