Exactly. Just because a domainer has 1800+ domains doesn't mean much if they can't sell enough each year to make a profit. Most domainers don't even break even.

yup. apart from parking revenue, still need to make abt $10k/yr to renew the names. parking has crashed from its peak. i still make about $15k/yr in profit which is not much, but i dont do this full time and get to keep the portfolio.

I've dabbled in domain selling, but haven't concentrated on it as my main business. Just a sideline thing I do once in a while. I've sold a handful for three figures. All were previously owned domains I got cheaply at auctions. I've never sold a hand reg'd domain for a decent price. And I haven't broken the four figure sale yet. That's got to be next on the agenda, the next time I go domaining. And I'll be using LinkedIn to do it, thanks to this thread.

Not sure if someone answered this already. I didn't see an answer, but I may have missed it.

Hand register is when you register a brand new domain name that you came up with yourself, rather than buying an existing domain name that used to belong to someone else. With hand registering, you are the original owner (and usually creator) of that domain name.

Just a quickie question, is this still worth the time? I saw these past years that the competition of domain sales is getting quite strong, and now is somewhat hard to find a particular keyword that converts in a potential sale for an interested customer.

Very nice! Great job! To be honest I didn't even think that there were still domains out there that could be that valuable, so that's good to hear that the Internet still has room to grow

I've bought a couple WSOs on the subject of domaining, but never actually put anything into practice. I may have to dig those out of my hard drive and give them a try now that I've actually heard of someone who successfully done it!

If you don't mind me asking, what would you say the ratio is of profitable domains to dead domains? Do the majority of them all sell eventually, or are there quite a few that will always just sit in your account?

I will say if you look at some of the domain sites it is not only the domain name but the age as well. People want to build their own blog networks and is cheaper in the long run then say some of the monthlies, so the prices of aged domains has gone up.

Parking is dead. Keyword domains in the Geo space if targetted to potential buyers has done well for me.

I send out about 10-15 email/mesages on a daily basis to potential buyers and i keep my pricing moderate. i dont price my $8 hand reg domain at $5k or more which i see a lot of ppl do, i am even happy if i can make $500 of my $8 investment and flip more names.

hand register is you go to a domain registrar like godaddy, name cheap etc.. and type the name you are searching for and it is available and you register the name for $8 depending on the extension you choose.

Yup. keywords and niche matter, unless you want to own a lot of names across various niche.

I do this part time and keep my pricing prudent to have more sales. I personally contact end users on a daily basis, both via emails and sometimes call and leave voice mails as well keywords in the bank, finance, loan, real estate, medicine, diseases niche do well in sales.

There are times on this forum when it's an absolute joy to read a post. Well done. I used to do this in the "wild west" days and made a s******d of money registering and selling domains. Back then any .com had a MASSIVE value and valuations were based on a figure pulled out of thin air based on the valuation of bank.com which I believe sold for 7 million so if a company wanted a .com that you owned, you would ask them why, vet them, see what they could pay and ask for $50,000 or $270,000 or whatever.

The figure was based on research.......... The more research you did, the more you knew they could pay and the more money your domain was worth. It really was the wild west days. Today I don't do it anymore....opportunities are limited somewhat by the fact that most desirable domains are gone and most buyers feel they are bidding on lower value domains due to the fact that desirable ones have gone.

There are opportunities, however, by surrounding your keywords with others........take a leaf out of hollywoods book. They promote a movie by adding the word movie on the end of a domain....... So now you can add:

    Supermarket
    Bazaar
    Website
    factory

Etc etc on to the end of a desirable keyword and buy it. if you buy a domain that's a brand name however....expect to attract attention of the unwanted kind.

    Anyway. Good luck

        This is exciting.

        But is it allowed by Linkedin? The TOS says you may not;

"Sell, sponsor, or otherwise monetize a LinkedIn Group or any other service or functionality of LinkedIn, without the express written permission of LinkedIn."

So just wondering if this could be an issue if someone reports your messages offering the sale of goods.

Or is it common to use Linkedin for these types of things?

    Well
This thread made me think about a lot, Actually I have a different story..

I spend $$$ in domains, but didnt get any sell till now. I am a usual reader of this link, Solid Week for Domain Sales With Enough Notable Sales to Fill TWO Top 20 Charts (its my favourite)

This was what forced me to invest in domain biz, but oh I didnt need to make a sad story again here, by telling how I failed...

Anyway OP, great work and hope you are making a good income with it.

But the thing I found here different from other domain selling techniques is the LINKEDIN...How did you do that...is it through groups??

DO we need to become some power member or something in linkedin for this...Do you have a normal account and how we can find great buyers through linkedin...
I didnt know whether you answer or not...(coz its your money side now, usually no one does)

But, anyway i am really feeling proud, not coz of me, one also made some good money with the domain....

Note : I also had some insurance domains, if anyone interested in JV's let me know
    Thanks
    Achu
