Advantages of .com .co and .net domain names for blog?

Hello everyone.

I'm currently developing a new blog for internet marketers and am exploring options for a domain name.

I wanted to ask if anyone here has some feedback on what domain is most beneficial and why.

I know that .com's are the most popular and most effective but have also seen some really successful .net domains.

Also there are new .co domains available with a wider range of names unregistered.

My question to the community is:

1. Are there benefits with using one over another in terms of generating traffic and search engine optimization? Would you recommend staying away from either three (.net or .co)

2. Would it still be worth registering a domain name that is open to register if it it's .co or .net instead of the most popular .com.

    i believe you get the fastest and highest rankings in Google with .com.
    .net and .org are next. If down the road you decide to sell, to "flip"
    your site, the .com will be worth much more.

    Here are my thoughts, as Google has no official guidelines regarding domain extensions.
    Never go with a .info! And I mean it, never. From my experiences, ranking a .info on 1st spot of Google is possible, but a lot harder than a .com or .net
    Go with a .com, if possible. They are the most known, and Google apparently trusts it best. Also, if you ever want to sell the website, having a .com will greatly increase its value.
    If you can't find a .com, then a .net and .org is still fine.
    I believe that the hype with the .co is just that: hype. I have yet to see any results using .co domains but as soon as I get my hands into it I will let you know.
    If you want to play it safe, go with a .com

    .co is officially treated like .com and .net by Google. So my advice is:

    - case 1 (extremely unlikely): if the domain you choose is unregistered in all TLDs, go with a .com

    - case 2 (what almost always happens): if the domain you choose is taken in .com, go with .co

    EVERY major successful dot com uses a dot com.

    Those who started with something else (like craigslist or delicious) bought their dot com as soon as they realized their fatal mistake.

    If your name is taken as a dot com, then either buy it from the current owner or choose another name.

    People will rattle off "facts" about Google not ranking different with other TLDs. So what?

    People will claim that your customers won't even notice. Yeah right.

    People will claim all kinds of stuff on this forum and any other. So what? Look around at reality. Go look at the top 1,000 sites on Alexa or your favorite reporting service. How many are dot coms?

    Ever notice that there has never been a dot net or a dot co craze?

    I don't believe that the search engines' have any real preference for ranking between the different domain extensions, except that .org and .info sites are great for backlinking! The .com and .co simply represent the word "commercial" while .net represents "network".

    What is more important is the rest of your domain name - the search engines do look at that and a good, relevant domain name will help search rankings. i.e. internetmarketing.com will generally carry more weight than myworld.com if the keyword search was "internet marketing" as it is seen as being more relevant.

    All 3 are treated the same way for SEO purposes.. I've noticed .co's still have some decent generic terms that have not been registered so it would be a good idea to look into .co's...

      Exactly. While one is forced to settle for what's left in .com, one can choose a great keyword in .co
