New Site, Review/Advice

Just launched my first site on Monday and could use the critical eye of those with far more experience than I.

It's a site focused on fantasy baseball projections for the upcoming season. You have the option of signing up for a free projections newsletter with additional option of buying more detailed resources.

Please let me know your thoughts on the design, placement of CTA, ads, etc.

As baseball season started in five weeks, there is kind of a small window to get this right.

Thanks!

    Hi.

Good work on setting this up. Also good work on quickly securing your domain name as well as the name for your twitter and facebook.

If you're going to take this seriously, you should sign up for and secure all social media vanity urls for your website name (starting with youtube if you haven't already).

As for the design of the site, good start so far. I like it personally (I like simplicity). Unfortunately for me, the site took a bit to load. There is also this ugly yellow rectangle at the top left. I assume a banner is missing.

Good work so far. Keep at it and keep improving.

I'm getting a 404 Error at the moment.

EDIT: It is working now. Nice and simple site.

Just took a quick look at your site. I had no problems loading or otherwise. Might have just been a gliche with Simon's connection or something.

Site looks pretty good, not flashy, layout seems fine.

One suggestion I would have would be to consider making your first post STICKY to the front page, since it is an intro to your site. That can be done through your wordpress control panel in the settings. If you are not sure about that just ask.

Otherwise, I think it is looking pretty good. I am sure others will come by and have other pointers.

    Best of luck,
    Robert

I was thinking the first "Welcome" post a sticky front page and have a separate page for the posts. I think I will make that change.

The yellow thing in the upper left is an AdSense ad that seems to load really slow. I really dislike AdSense overall but I'm not sure what my better option would be.

I'm not seeing a yellow box at all and I have opened the page several times!

Anyway, as for the sticky post, you could do that, but it isn't necessary. If you sticky just that one post, it will simply remain at the top, and all other posts will fall in after it. That one post is all that will stay set.
But, that is your choice. Just wasn't sure if you knew that or not.

        Keep up the good work,
        Robert

Would you mind explaining how you sticky a post?

          I get a 404 error too.

Looks pretty well thought-out to me.

One thing you might consider is placing something for monetization or repeat your subscription at the bottom.

Most people won't scroll down, but for those who do, the bottom is probably a more prominent space then what they scroll through in between.

I also like simplicity. So i liked it. I think it would look better if you centered the ad on top yea? I so then add
in front of the ad code and
at the end of it. This will put it in the middle.

Elegant, simple design. Very attractive. It loaded quickly; however, at first there was an ad at the very top for Connie's Cupcakes (?) which really doesn't go with your site. Then it changed to a Google Adwords ad, which is better, but I'm wondering why you have that in such a prominent position? Seems there should be a better targeted ad up there.
