Not sounding like a spammer....

Hello there,

I currently do marketing for a software development company and to be honest I am really new at it (just out of college). We are launching a mobile application targeted at kids 4-9 in December. My question is, when I contact journalists and bloggers looking to promote my product, get feedback, or reviews, How should I structure my emails so I come across as organic and real instead of some kid promoting a product?

The content needs to sound personal. Do a little research on where you are sending the contact and give them a personal touch.

Wow, 4 year olds with mobile phones?
I'm seriously out of the loop on that one...

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

  • I would focus on bloggers in the 4-9 year old niche.

Start by saying that due to their experience in the field you would like them to try the application before its launched.

Explain that the feedback they give will really help you to develop / market the product successfully.

If they really like it, ask them to post about their experience with it.

If you are contacting by niche you can use generic emails that will still feel personable to the recipient.

I appreciate the input!! I was hoping to explore other ways of connecting instead of offerring them a spot on our beta testing team, We only have so many spots. And we are developing an application for iPads focused at introducing young children to foreign languages.

Honesty is the best policy, especially when you are dealing with other company's. Promote your company's credibility by proving yours by contacting them "organically" and naturally and you will get a better response. This could also help in your future because doing this well will get you noticed.

Mobile apps targeted at 4 year olds??? Man, I am getting old!

When contacting media to promote the product, I think you should be honest about who you are and what you are doing. Be professional and polite and try to explain the details of your product in a factual way without hyperbole and exaggeration.

Put together a legitimate press kit with your company history, info on the product, pictures/graphics if you have them, etc, and a press release announcing the product and the projected launch date.

Send the package to both online and offline media - a mention in a popular, targeted print magazine can generate a lot of interest.

Keep in mind that even though your app is aimed at kids 4-9, the ones you need to 'sell' are the parents. Choose your media contacts accordingly...
