how often should you post on a blog?

Providing your giving high quality content (and doing most the writing yourself,) how often should you post on a blog if every day is out of the question?

(It opened with 25 posts, so people still have something to read when they go there.)

Depending on your situation and motivation, I'd say at least once a day. Killer content makes you interesting.

If you can't do once a day, try a couple times a week, if you're too busy for that, try once a week.

If you can't carve out enough time in your schedule, find a high quality writer and outsource.

The question might be more suited to how much you should write as opposed to how often, since you're likely to have scheduling options at your disposal assuming you are running something sich as WordPress.

If you know you won't have time to write an article on a certain day, you could perhaps write 2 when you have time and schedule the second etc.

I like to attract daily repeat visits with my main blog so I try to update daily. I'll do some scheduling too for the busier times to try and ensure something is going out daily.

Quality over Quantity! I would say 3 post a week. I think that as soon as you get some popularity and regular readers coming to your website, the quality argument holds true. You should post a lot at first though.

If you can post everday - then that would be perfect. Make sure though that you don't compromise quality over quantity. So, people will have something to look forward to everyday

Quality over quantity, in my opinion. It does not matter how much you are writing if you do not have anyone reading it. If it takes you a week to develop a post that is worth reading, wait a week. If you can pump out great content on a daily basis, then go for it.

I'd say at least once a week. If you can post more often, set up a schedule: tuesday and thursday, our monday, thursday, friday, for example. That way, if you get people coming back to your blog, they will know when to check for new content.

      Hi,

If you want a reach blog you need to write almost every day. If you don't want to write because you don't have motivation, time, etc, you can regiter yourself in a blog network like seolinkvine and get fresh content to your blog every day automatically.

Well, the most important thing to remember is that when it comes to SEO and updating your website, CONSISTENCY is more important than FREQUENCY.

So, it doesn't really matter how often you post new content, but that you post at that rate fairly consistently over the long haul.

That being said, to more directly answer your question, my own experience would say that an optimal schedule would be to publish new content as often as twice a week and as infrequently as twice a month. Whatever works best for you.

You CAN post more frequently than twice a week, but I always feel like I'm wasting content if I don't try to schedule it out further...After all, the less often I have to come back and queue up content to be published, the more time I have to spend developing other websites.

Similarly, it's not like you're going to be de-indexed if you fail to update your blog on your weekly schedule, but for MAXIMUM authority (and to make your readers happy, too) I would recommend updating your website with new content at least twice a month.

    Hope this helps,

    - Stephen

I would not worry about frequency. It is more about content. If you have great content, it will be up forever, or until you close down your blog. So it is for this reason you posts every few days, but make sure the content is killer and nothing like all the rest of the blogs.

Stand out like dogs b@lls and you will get lots of traffic and prospects flooding your site. Simple as that.

Whatever frequency you ultimately settle on, STICK TO A SCHEDULE. In other words, if you decide 3 posts per week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, then make sure those posts drop like clockwork, around the same time of day, every time. Eventually your readers become like Pavlov's dogs...they'll start drooling for your fresh content a couple hours before you release it.

This is true. There's a couple of bloggers that I will check every day, just to see if they're posted something new. Pretty much everyone I used to regularly read has fallen out of frequent postings (sometimes going a month or more between postings) and I can tell it's affecting their readership. These people used to get 100-200 comments on a post, now they're getting 50.

To stay motivated, just keep reminding yourself that you only need to type your fingers down to the bone for a little while...once you build a following that's hungry for your quality content, delivered 2 or 3 times a week, you can turn on the revenue machine -- at that point, you'll be able to attract guest bloggers and eventually hire an editorial staff...then, voila! You've got a self-sufficient machine making you dough and putting out quality content daily.

To get from here to there, though, you're going to have to MAKE time.

In my own opinion, you should post at least three content a week on your blog. It depends on the quality of your post. A killer content is something that is interesting enough for the viewers and visitors, something the is relevant and worth reading.

Thank you for that advice, its very helpful. Getting started with everything is hard, I use to make a squidoo lense every day but now I make one a every few days, You I can relate to that, I earn greatly from the content I was writing delay I just need to "MAKE" the Time your completely right about that!

As often as possible. More content better rankings . More content more social buzz. More posting the more interaction, The more you do the more creative you will get ...1 caveat though make sure the content is useful, exciting and relevant not just garbage . Think about setting up google alerts for the keywords and topics you would like to write about. Then check your alerts daily and you will see new content in your niche and then you can express your ideas about the content . That way you always have something fresh to talk about. Want more ideas then message me

I think it's more of how much quality you provide in your posts, instead of just how often you post.

I know some successful blogs that have about 2 dozens of viral posts but don't have fresh content frequently.

There are also popular blogs that post once a day. So I think it's not the frequency but quality.

But with all else being equal, I think it's better to post more than not. Because with the variety of posts and keywords, you increase your chance to get noticed.

This...It's almost like the better question is "How long should my posts be?" or "How in-depth should I cover topics in my posts?"

    Hi,

If you’re producing high-quality content and doing most of the writing yourself, I would say every other day if every day is out of the question.

Set a blog posting schedule so that people can see the pattern of your posting and will visit your site following the observed pattern of posting (i.e Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays).

You also need to consider your time. If you are a very busy person, then you can do it once or twice a week. However, if you can really commit yourself in writing high-quality articles every day, then why not?

Remember, only you and your audience can determine how often you should post on a blog. Just a tip, go for quality over quantity.

    Best,
    Nick

once in 2 days can be good , once in 3 days is also good... but just try to be consistent. 25 posts is good for starting up, if you are trying to teach people to look at more to your quality content, then 2 - 3 days for 1 posting will be OK I think...

I would suggest you to post every day, if you have lots of categories..if you do post three to four days in a week,so no issue is there but the quality of your post should be high..

At the beginning I would say every day until you get a good number of posts on your blog then around 3 to 4 times a week, like other members have said quality is better than quantity.
I usually write a few posts and then schedule them it makes life easier for me to get them all done in one day and then get on with other jobs.

I think that before considering how often to post, the actual content should be considered.

What type of content are you providing to your readers?

The way that I write, I like to sit and write as much as I possibly can at once. From there I can go through and proof read everything and break in into smaller parts to provide to the blog.

Also, it keeps people engaged with your blog, and coming back for more! If you provide content every single day, they may start to take it for granted. But, a series of related blog posts over the course of a few weeks works very effectively.

3 times a week. Make sure they are 500-600 word articles (more like of a pillar article). Google loves content with images too. They get indexed quickly.

Like others have said, posting with consistency is the key. Don't post 20 articles in one day and then nothing for a month - scheduling is your friend if you don't have time everyday.

However, the fact that you've said you will be doing the writing yourself suggests that you are passionate enough about your niche/topic to stay motivated and keep ideas flowing. Posting something - even if it's short and sweet - everyday would be ideal.

Overall, it depends on what you are more focused on; visitor interest or search engine interest.

    Hope that helps
