Problem: My site gets 1400 uniques per day, but NO $$

Yep I get quite a lot of UVs on this one, but the problem is it makes very little money! I've tried every single offer and ad placements. At most, having Adsense on it made $1 per day. Yeah a whopping $1 per day!

Not sure what to do with this site anymore. Flip? how much would it even go for? I'm out of ideas. Help guys!

First thing's first, unless it's an autoblog, or it has a very high-paying keyword strip out the Adsense, it's crap and you're inviting your members to leave your site for good. Contextual advertising is the devil for someone who wants to make money from their own site.

First, I would try to capture as many of your visitors as possible and convert them to subscribers. This is most important. Once they are subscribed you have the option to sell to them at your own leisure. Provide quality content to them so they don't see you as valueless.

Once you have them on your list, you can direct them back to your site if you post something, you can promote affiliate offers and you can promote your own offers.

You've got a really good basis for profit, you now just need to start monetizing them effectively.

Have you considered selling ad space to media buyers?

Tried placing CPA offers or products with your affiliate links?

How about building a list if it makes sense?

      Good luck!

try to focus your ads as much ass possible / dont do adsense they do to much random ads also check your traffic what kind of traffic you get

hope more targeted your ads are to your audiance how more money you gonna make.

if you get much random traffic not realy focussed on a toppic try the big 3
making money ads, dating ads, wheightloss ads these are the biggest markets covers the most people needs also try not to have your ad going in a subniche of them this will cut you earnings ( like muscle training for in the weightloss niche )

also i forgot if you use banners try to create a red edge around them it will increase click rate

I agree with this. And I'm also wondering what your sales page looks like? How the CTAs of your page looks like. There are a lot of factors you have to look at before you can accurately diagnose why your site isn't earning.

      RELATIONSHIP is Key.

If you find that you still aren't getting very many subscriber emails, then I would suggest either selling the site and being honest with the person buying; or you can diagnose the issue. See where the traffic is coming from. Since it isn't performing the way you'd like it to, then seek alternative traffic sources, ie: try something different! That's it.

It's amazing that you're getting a lot of unique visits per day. What you need is to have a strong call-to-action if you want them to stay. Along with that, just as Dave here said, you should provide them with quality content.

Listen to Dave's advice, its good advice to capture a list of subscribers.

Other than that, there are several ways to monetize a site, Affiliate programmes and products are one way - selling your own infoproducts is another - and selling advertising to a niche specific company is another.

Dave is right also that you have a good base to start profiting from, your just going to have to test and test and test some more, and make a record of what you are doing and the results you are getting.

I'm in a similar situation, around 800 uniques per day all organic search from Google, Yahoo and Bing etc.

My plan to monitise is this:

    - Set up Google Analytics to test visitor behaviour on money pages
    - Learn copywriting (reading Sugarmans Adweek handbook) to rewrite my affiliate sales pages
    - Build a list - Reading Ben Settle and setting up a/b testing in Google Website Optimizer to get more subscribers
    - Free Incentive - Wrote free ebook targeted to the topic of my most popular pages in return for sign ups
    - Visiting SocialTriggers.com to learn about improving conversion rates

The only thing I'm struggling with is figuring out how to get someone to opt into your list before they're redirected to the affiliate product sales page. (Not using WP)

    Any ideas?

There are several things you could do with a site that is getting traffic but no commissions. Try changing up your monotization. You mentioned using adsense why not try promoting a clickbank product, cpa offer, or building an email list.
You could also flip your site. If it is a niche site there is always a hungry crowd of buyers for sites with traffic on Flippa. Just make sure you have analytics data to back it up.
    Hope this helps

Give us some details about it. What it's about, is it site for information (learning to do something) or about products?

The site has 100K+ pages, and is more of a "fun facts" kinda site. I get tons of visits, but not particularly targeted to a specific niche. It really doesn't have a commercial intent as the information doesn't "review" or try to sell anything. But I'd think that at 1400 UVs per day should at least bring more than $1 / day right?

        Hi,

So you're not selling but you expect some PPC money or CPA leads. Right?

1,400 uniques a day is not enough.

        Breakdown the uniques:
-> passers-by only => they stayed 10 seconds and flew away forever
-> regulars => they come at least 3 times, if they have marked your site in some alert tools for updates. Stayed for several minutes.
-> addicts => they come often and stayed several minutes each time reading, watching video, join the polls or downloading stuffs.

So can you tell us about the breakdown?

        What you need are:
-> MORE QUALITY TRAFFIC from at least 5,000 uniques.
-> catchy call-for-actions and good Headlines.

If 100 uniques ( 2 % ) out of 5,000 uniques took action, that'll bring some money already.

Gaming and freebie cpa offers may work well with a site like that. Otherwise try finding a couple offers/products sites the have a similar demo to your website and then split testing ads til you find a winner.

I would also be interested to have a look at the site so I can help you analyse whats going wrong. Some sites just don´t make any profit its not the end of the world. Simply test and tweak and learn from your mistakes and move on.

Take a look at some other similar sites, or at least sites within your niche. What are they doing to monetise their websites?

Why spend time and effort doing something, when someone else may have already done the work for you?

Good luck with getting it earning.

You have to build your list 1400 visitors should be making you more then $1 no matter how you look at it.

You can make $1 from 100 visitors, depends how you site is structured.

I would definitely get a free digital product to give away with an opt in form, then start sending some valuable emails with nice info and finally some products, either your own or affiliate products.

I'm with the others: being able to actually see the site would help us give more constructive feedback.

Could it be that you're offering tidbits and interesting informations and factoids and not directing the visitors' attention to a call to action, to an actual monetizing product?

Put a huge opt-in form smack dab on the front page with a hook like:

"Get On Our Daily Fun Facts List Now
Receive Hilarious Facts Directly In Your
    Inbox Every Day Like Clockwork"

Replace the boring "Subscribe" or "Submit" button with one that say: "I'm Bored...Make Me Laugh Please!"

That might generate some signups. Send them offers from this place:
    humour*::*Affiliate Program Directory*

or any other place you find from googling "fun affiliate program" (remove the quotes for more results.

    Good Luck :-)

Build your list of subscribers. Then send out automated emails giving them great tips and links to affiliate sites - depending of what your niche is.

    It's a start.

Get them in e-maillist and do e-mailmarketing. This way you do not f*ck up your site with ads, so it stays attractive for the visitor to revisit, and you still make money.

    UPDATE:

So I went with ListWire (cuz it's free) and added an opt in form on the site. It's now getting 4 to 5 sign ups per day.

It seems pretty low to me, but whacha guys think? This good / bad?

Have you checked out some of you competitor or similar sites, to see how they are monetizing theirs?

This always gives me a lot of ideas and let's me know what is working for them.

I know, dumb question, right? I'm sure you've done this already, I just have no idea how you aren't making any money.

I've seen a lot of sites similar to yours and they always seem to do really well with adsense. But then again, they have their ads in the perfect places that blend in with the rest of the site.

You could also sell ad space on your site too.

I'm sure you'll soon get the money rollin in.

    Good luck!
