Someone please make this

I want a plugin made that I can put on an opt-in page so it ask where you're from (country).

If you sign up from uubeckastan or some country where the daily pay is $10 a year it stops you.

Basically I want a plugin that allows me to keep people from certain countries or regions off my list.

If anyone knows of one let me know.

Thanks.

Tim

You should be able to do something like that using IP geolocation. Of course, it won't work for people using proxies but it's more reliable than letting them put where they're from.

Wordpress has a few plugins for that if I remember well, if your site runs on WP of course.

There are a lot of tools out there to determine location from IP, language settings in the browser, time zone settings, etc. Just redirect them to another page.

But first you should consider that someone making $10 per year doesn't generally even have access to the Internet. There are people making over $100K per year working as contractors in all of those countries (except maybe Somalia, Gaza strip and DPRK). If they are visiting your site, they probably speak English (if your site is English) and don't fit the mold of the average resident of the country in question.

Once they see that their country choice keeps them from signing up, I think they might just select a different country name from the list.

I'd just go the geo targeting route like Patrice Le Vexier mentioned. I'd use the free country to IP database from Maxmind. And I'd make it so that the opt-in form wouldn't even show up on the page if a person from an undesired country visited.

    That's a very excellent point.

An alternative would be to simply fine tune your traffic generation. Target more affluent counties. As far as SEO goes, unless you target your audience regionally, then you may have to do some of the other GEO-stuff the others are talking about.
