Introducing Myself...New, but wanting to learn!

Hello All,

Been lurking on these forums for some time. I have yet to post until now because I'm no means an expert.

My (not-so-brief) story: I have wanted for years to start an internet venture (or multiple streams of income) online to make money. My strengths are extreme creativity, somewhat of an addiction to being on my computer, and possessing many basic qualities of an entrepreneur.

My weaknesses to date have been lack of focus, and lack of time, as I am a (single) mother, and worked FT in a career where I was putting in 12 hr work days a lot of the time.

Well, that 2nd barrier was recently erased when I got laid off, so I have been trying to use this new opportunity (and yes...that's how I see it) to focus on "pulling together" all of the fragmented pieces I've acquired up to this point.

I've previously looked at many different models, but as I said, until recently my problem has been lack of focus.

I finally pulled it together that A -> B-> C, so my recent short to long range goal is now to: A) build a website that's basically generating leads for local businesses. And then, B) Use those profits to fund my true interest, which is a niche site of sorts that I have in mind. Don't get me wrong...I want to do both. But I realize to do one I must first get focused and do the other.

I had ordered a couple of programs/guides a while back, when I first learned of the local marketing concept: I bought the Net Space Profits (Tyler Erickson) program, and Doc Dan's "Google Love Method". I didn't realize they were both WSO's and "discover" this forum, til later. I didn't have even a clue what a "WSO" was.

So, when I bought the Net Space or Lease thing, I basically went overboard and bought a BUNCH of single use domains. I studied both programs, Net Space and Doc Dan's method, and basically from there formulated a combo of both, added to my own ideas creatively. Essentially, from that. what I've been building is one main site, which I can market aggressively locally, that has 60 individual single-use lead generating "category" sites (each of which, of course, I could also market individually.)

I also bought the AdSense 100k program, thinking I could use it for this concept, but more for the niche market site I want to do down the road. But to be honest, I'm somewhat of a "serial product/WSO buyer", so I have to make myself put on the brakes with anything else....as it drains my budget and diverts my focus from what I now know I need to focus on.

Also, I'm making a concerted effort to educate myself ...as if I'm taking my own e-course on internet marketing. I have already long subscribed to others' emarketing newsletters, Yaro Starak's, Internet Business Mastery Academy, Anik Singal (my favorite, but the most dangerous...as I get drawn to all sorts of other "stuff" I'd like to try)...and others.

But now I've decided I need to make a concerted effort to create my OWN "course" of sorts, by sitting down, putting on the brakes, and teaching myself the simple basics of online advertizing...what the terms mean...WSO, PPC, SEO, PPL, that sort of thing....as well as how it all works. The "nuts and bolts", if you will.

I don't approach this as a hobby. I have often spent LONG days, ALL day, trying to make "something" work...just having the lack of focus. Now that I have a measurable game-plan, I am hoping that what I've been drawn to for so long will eventually, with continued focus and effort, be successful, and profitable. I don't need riches. Just enough to live comfortably and stay home with my kids if possible, and work for myself & my personal goals, and not someone else's.

Of course, if I am "forced" (financially) to go back to working in the strictly offline world, I will continue to work toward this goal as I have in the past.

Well, that's my intro. Hope it didn't take too long

I'd welcome feedback on some really basic things, such as which method of campaign would work best for my local site. But other than that, I'm mainly just planning to lurk...and learn...and I have been doing.

Nice to meet you all!

    Hello JAEJ!
Welcome to the site I'm fairly new here as well so I am feeling what you are. I have been laid off before and It stinks, but we all get through it.

Im confused on what the goal of your A. (build a website that's basically generating leads for local businesses). Do you have a local business or you want to sell a service to business in your area?

    Great to hear from you!

    Kate

      Kate,

Hi, & thanks for the welcome! Nice to meet another relatively new member.
Very glad to have found this forum.

The basic idea is to build one main site that produces free leads for local service businesses in 60 different categories (plumbers, dentists, lawyers, etc.). This main page is a landing page with all the categories listed/linked on it.

I registered single-use domains for the main page (of course), as well as each of the 60 service category links, hoping that will help with SEO for each of their individual pages. Each of these links goes to a landing page with some pictures, information, and a lead capture form. Of course, information will be available for the potential customer to contact the business directly, as well. (And let me just say, building/maintaining these 60 individual pages is turning out to be more labor-intensive than I anticipated! However, still very do-able!)

Potential customers can find the contractors who've leased a spot by either:
      a) searching for local "[business type] in Kansas City", ...on a search engine; or,

      b) Going to the main page to look up via the individual category sites, (which I'll lease to local contractors) and searching via category, where they'll end up on one of the lead capture/business contact info pages.

I'm hoping to "brand" the site, as well...I plan to publicize the main site around town, too, so it's an immediately recognizable place to go to to find a quality local service contractor.

      That's the idea, anyway!! :p

Using the site/service will be free for the potential leads, of course, and will be funded by the service contractors leasing out the spaces. However, at this point, I'm struggling with some of the specifics....such as, as brainstorming possible incentives to the potential patrons of these businesses to go to the main page to find a service contract? Should it be monetized via pay-per-lead, pay-per-click, or just a flat monthly fee to be included in the directory? That kind of thing. Also, what potential value can I provide the contractors who lease their business on my pages?...besides, obviously, getting leads?

And yes, once this brings in some income, I hope to additionally build a niche site in an area of interest in mine, that generates an income via AdSense, affiliate links/endorsements, etc. That's way down the road, though.

Hope I am explaining all of this somewhat clearly and (somewhat) concisely.

And of course, any ideas are welcome!

      Hi JaySG,

Well, I've lurked for a long while, and have actually avoided posting until now, because I was so afraid of looking like such a "noob" (LOL). But, then I figured...I've got to start somewhere! And this is clearly an excellent place to ask for, and receive advice. I know I've found plenty of great advice here already, given to others, that have answered questions of my own.

      Thanks for the welcome!

      Hi Jae,

It seems like you could be suffering from information overload. I'm a relative newbie myself, and it's so tempting to buy into every program that is offered. When you have too much info, it is also hard to focus.

I knew I needed a mentor, but couldn't afford to pay much. I joined the Chris Farrell Membership. Chris makes FOUR FIGURES EVERYDAY, and has thousands of videos on every aspect of internet marketing.

Visit my squeeze page, and I can give you a free e-book that tells how to create a website in one day, plus you receive FREE 64 issue newsletter by Chris Farrell.

Good luck with everything, and welcome to the Warrior Forum.

Welcome to WF, as I am new just like you. I feel like I'm suffering from information overload as well with all the acronyms that you described earlier. But I have held off on buying stuff except for one thing which was Niche Profit Classroom. That has taught me a lot about how to build websites, etc. But there is a wealth of information and a lot of helpful people on this site (some not so helpful as well, but ignore them). I do wish you the best of luck on your endeavors though!

Honestly the best advice I can give you...... upgrade your membership here - its is the best $39 dollars you can spend ( I have spent in the region of around $500 on products, software , seo courses ebooks you name it I have either tried it or locked at it, but the best advice and tools I got was from the war room (can only access it if you upgrade life time membership) if I had to put a value on the upgrade I would say at least worth $67 a month.

Why not start a blog site on a topic you enjoy and find it easy to write about. Get traffic to come to it, then find a way to monetise it. There's heaps of people on WF to give you loads of advise on how to go about it. But the first step would be to buy a domain name that is catchy, get yourself some hosting, and create yourself a site using something like WordPress.

It's a start, and a start is better than just pondering about it.

It's all about having laser focus. Keep a list of goals to achieve each and every day, and make sure you knock them off. You'll be amazed how much more you can achieve by doing this.

Like you, I had to stop myself from buying stuff and focus on one thing. Interestingly, when I stopped buying stuff, I realized I knew a lot more than I was giving myself credit for. And while I could keep trying to learn everything, I'd be better off taking action with what I already knew.

I think it's great that you're looking at this as an opportunity, and I wish you much success.

Hello, JAEJ, and welcome to the Warrior Forum! There is a natural period of exploration and learning and that is all well and good- I lurked here for a LONG time, before I joined, bought WAY too many WSOs, all to educate myself, which is very important. But at some point, its important to pick one think and START, get into ACTION- see it through to completion. You can get to the others, but there is nothing like quick success to keep you motivated, and moving forward. The rest will still be there to pick up and try later, I promise!

Welcome to the forum, try and stick to one method and work it through to completion. Lots of "shiny new" courses everyday, but if you stay focused you will succeed. Best of luck in your business.

      You have to take action.

When I first started I got into the trap of buying lots of courses but never acting on them.

If you never try something, you have already failed.

If something does not work, you learn from it, make adjustments and try again. Eventually you will find what works for you.
