I would start out by having a regular friend account as most people have. Then I would create a fan page so people can "like" you and you can build a reputation. You're going to need to decide on a permaurl so people can easily access your fan page. In other words a permaurl would be something like http://www.facebook.com/yourname.

You need at least 25 likes before you can create a permaurl. On a side note, for some reason recently I was able to create permaurls without needing any likes to start out with, so this can vary from time to time.

      I have also noticed this.

Recently I've been able to modify the URL without any likes as soon as the page was created.

Do you think this is temporary or an update?

    1. Create a Facebook-account
    2. Create Page for your company
    3. Do some manual marketing or buy a PPC campaing
    4. Make sure the page has good content and something that will squeeze people to a page or fill in their e-mail address.

I agree you need to build a fan page. It's not difficult at all. Then, visit it at least daily and share information, ideas, etc.

Visit other pages in your niche, "like" them or leave comments so that others see your page. Be someone who is open to visitors, has something to say, and enjoys engaging in short bursts of conversation with others.

That will quickly draw people to your page. You do have to participate at least a couple of times a day at first if you want to build traffic, but it is not that difficult. FB helps by suggesting/recommending you to others.

I have a fan page that gets quite a few hits and I only post about once or twice a week now. A friend/coworker works her fan page daily and has many more visitors and regular conversations. I'm sure she does well with her product, as well.

If you're trying to get your name out there for everyone to see, then you would need to create a fan page. Personal pages are for you and your friends.

Well first you need to be known for something.

Do you have a blog where you post valuable content or a product you sell???

If you want to establish yourself on FB it's best to have something people know you by, that way most people will naturally want to connect with you on social media platforms.

They might want to get more value out of following you or want to share with their friends the reason why they are connected in the first place.

So basically you have to get your name out there one way or another and you can always have people join you on Facebook.

    I hope this helps

Thanks for all the advice guys!

When you create a new FB account there is an option to create a page and then you have a choice of 6 types of pages...

Should it be done like that OR create a personal account first and then a fan page?

    I'm a little confused..
