How long do you work on a niche with no results

Before giving up on that niche, and moving on to another? Im starting to think after 8 months with no results that im in the wrong niche. Im not someone who gives up but maybe it's time to try another niche.

I actually thought this was a decent question. Was expecting to see a few replies.
I'm also asking the same question!

How long do you beat a dead horse. Im getting 300 visits a day now average time on site 4 to 8 minutes some days. But all they do is read my stuff. Im getting great feedback on my articles from other truck drivers. But they just dont seem to be interested in buying anything.

You are getting traffic but you need to learn how to take that traffic and monetize it...maybe a popup box to get the email capture to give them something really cool...then allow the autoresponder work them...

...Or...just sell the site on Flippa.com and start something else.

I think I would ask myself how long do I work on a niche until I change my approach.

There are 3 parts to the formula, traffic + offers = sales

Which part are you lacking, and then analyze why you are lacking.

Are you getting traffic? If no then figure out why, it could be because there's no desire in the niche in which case I'd move on but any other cause I would work to get right.

This is not as easy to answer as the question may imply because it's not a matter of how long. It's a matter of what strategy or stratgies are you using?

It's not as simple as traffic, conversions, your offers, sales, expenses, etc. That's a good start, but you've got to pull back and look at the bigger picture before delving into the details.

Let me expound on that. Let's say you decided to build an Amazon review website and you decided to drive traffic to that website using 2 traffic methods. But you're doing those 2 methods incorrectly for 8 months, does that mean that niche is wrong for you? Maybe, maybe not. But it more likely means you're not doing the right things from a strategic standpoint.

In 99.9% of the time, if you're in a niche that has advertising and competition, by definition it's already a profitable niche! It's all in the implementation then. So I wouldn't focus on how long, I would take a step back and take a closer look at the following:

    * Your business plan (or lack thereof). Does your business plan have projections and numbers based on reality? You should have an idea on what your numbers are before you even get started.

    * Your product(s) / service(s)/ offers that you are promoting. Are they solid products? Are they life-changing? Do they fulfill a very specific (or a very general high demand) need?

    * Your traffic. Where is it coming from? How targeted is it? Is it sustainable?

    * Your marketing efforts: all the way from start to finish. How many campaigns do you have going? How are you tracking your traffic? How are you improving conversions? How often are you promoting your business?

    * Your sales funnel: what are your prospects experiencing from the moment they see your virtual flier or ad all the way to how you capture their information and beyond?

    * Your network or list: are you building a contact database?

    * Your product mix: how strategic are your upsells, cross-sells, etc.?

That's the tip of the iceberg, but you get the point. It's not how long you've been at it, it's what are you doing and does it strategically support your goals?

It's usually not the niche that's the issue, I've done a lot of work with both small business owners and fortune 500 companies.....and while market conditions, economic cycles, etc. are all important, it's usually strategy is where people / organizations are deficient.

Thereare many variables, I think. Most can't get enough traffic, but if you are getting a decent number of visitors, and the traffic is targeted, its more about conversion. Your page may not be converting traffic because of poor sales copy. You have to look at all possibilities....and change one variable at a time.

    It depends.

I always try to use at least three different methods before i give up. Remember what works in one niche is not always what works best in another niche.

Just like with adsense sites, we use Google tools and others as a good indication, but even still we can get it wrong. So if you are pro at this then after a few months (maybe 6) you will know whether to give it up or carry on.

If you have never had success with the site before then I would not give up so easily. Usually (as was the case with me), I spent over a year messing with my niche site before I made the changes needed for it to be a success.

So, I say depends, because it MAY be that you are simple making a small error (easy fix) but if you are a pro then by the six month mark I have a good indication as to whether I keep it or flog it. It also depends on how great your research was before jumping in...

It's quite normal for a business to operate in the red for a year or more before seeing a profit.

Maybe it’s not the niche that's not profitable, maybe it’s how you are approaching the niche. What is it that you are promoting? Is it an informational product? Try offering a free report in that niche and offer them quality information when they join your list. Build that relationship with them first, than promote whatever product you want once you have a good relationship.

I would try offering amazon items that are of particular interest to truckers.
cb radios, trucker hats, or items that make driving a truck all day more comfortable.
Or try to become an affiliate of a site that sells truck driving gear.

I am selling CB Radios i have a page CB Shop. Also im selling legal insurance to protect your cdl, and other trucker tools. All of them are pages at the top of the site. I spent the last 8 months learning how to build a site, get traffic, and working on my grammar. Now it's time to learn the marketing side. Getting conversions is the next step. It just might take me another year to see some conversions. But if i never give up then i cant lose. Thanks everybody for the ideas
