Do you guys think this will work?

Hey Everyone,

I am thinking of a project, and I am not sure if it will work. I want to offer people the ability to start their own web development business without knowing any web development skills at all. Typically, the owner of the business will sell to the local clients, small businesses, etc. However, as I have the infrastructure, office, developers, etc. already setup and in place, I can handle all the backend stuff.

They will build their brand, business, etc... I am thinking a good price point to start this would be about $200 one time payment for the starter kit. This will include a domain, hosting for life, web page setup with content, optimized for the local area, instructions and support on how to get clients, access to support forum with other members. I could essentially offer this for free, however, this will bring on many people who won't do anything about it. If they spend some money, they are more likely to actually start building their own business.They will be able to have markups of even 100% as we will be making money off volume.

    Two questions:

    1- Why would I want to buy web development services from someone that knows nothing about web development?

    2- Aren't you basically saying that you're going to offer web development and your method to market your service is to recruit local people to sell your services to their clients?

      Great questions Steve.

      1) Most of the potential web site clients do not know anything about web development. The person that will be selling the service will have enough knowledge to sell the service. They just do not need any technical skills but they will be trained ofcourse.

      2) Ideally that's what it should be but its more like being a dropshipper so to speak if you are familiar with that. The seller does not need any infrastructure or anything, just needs to be able to sell while we do all the hard work. However, they are free to ofcourse develop sites themselves or whatever but I'd ofcourse prefer for them to use us.

    It sounds pretty much like a very good plan.

    Don't forget to firstly offer something for free to get potential costumers, then monetize thereafter with different services like maintaining the websites etc.

    The plan is innovative and will be getting a positive start it seems. However you should try to offer different packages for small, medium and large businesses instead of same package for all.

      No, but that looks interesting though.

      Basically, if someone wants to start up a web dev. business targeting their local businesses, or whatever, they can do it and we will the background support, and do all the technical things.

        $200 seems a bit pricey . What additional services will you be offerring the client . Anyone can set up a basic wordpress site . When you say optimize the site what exactly will you be doing.

        Justify the $200 spend a bit better , that may help people make an informed decision.

          The reason I put it at $200 is because I do not want to have someone who signs up and then doesn't do anything. My goal is not the $200. The $200 is just to weed out the serious from the non serious ones.

          It will cost more than $200 to set up everything for them because it will include domain, hosting, website (definitely not a basic site as we want the site to be capable of promoting their business), marketing list/leads, training manuals and videos, and full support.
