Well take a good look lads, relying on SEO to rank your website is slowly becoming numbered!

[NOTE: I am talking with reference to getting your niche websites and blogs ranked]

They say a picture is worth a thousand words..the search rankings appear just above the fold. (fyi, I am using a 24 inch 16:9 LCD)

This is happening across multiple different niches and markets. I would hazard a bet this is only the beginning.

Glad I am not reliant on Google for traffic and income.

Note there are more paid placements appearing on that page than organic results. Google has come to replace so called "seo spammers" with their own ad system. Do you think google would prefer you find the best organic result? Or that you click on the highest paying ads?

And what about people that are Chris? Like myself for instance.

Does this mean that my business model isnt viable because of one screen shot?

Cmon man, you showed one search phrase out of literally billions. Thats no indication that "SEO is biting the dust"

I said it is the beginning. This is simply intended as a heads up mainly at new people who mistakenly believe that getting top spot in Google is the be all and end all.

Obviously there are people making a living using SEO and will continue to do so for a long time. This hasn't been implemented across the board completely, but it is a taste of what is to come in the future.

I don't know about your specific business not being viable but with all the changes to the way Google is using to rank websites, including the implementation of things like G+ it is very likely in the future to cause a lot of pain, especially if you are almost completely dependent on 'organic' Google traffic.

This is the beauty of content syndication. Your risk is spread across multiple sources, on-line and offline.

This is a little taste of what is to come in the future in terms of relying on organic Google rankings.

Ignore it if you want, but relying on a competitor(Yes Google is competing against you, their product is their paid advertising) to send you traffic is not a sound long term business strategy. Especially in terms of risk.

Actually, Google's local search and maps means MORE opportunty, not less for the average SEOer. Instead of there being only ten Top 10 positions for "dog training", there's now thousands of opportunities to rank and get traffic.

While it will be harder to get a lot of traffic for "dog training", it will be much easier to get some traffic, based on location.

I predicted, and prepared for what I call "People Rank" about a decade ago. It was obvious to me then that using criteria based on the actions of real people was good for ranking purposes.

My biggest question is, "What took Google so long?"

But no...This isn't the "beginning". The "beginning" was about 10 years ago.

              Interesting.

I would have to agree. Since the G+ social integration within the SERPS, its definitely becoming obvious, that its more about the 'person' behind the website, than the website itself.

not all searches trigger local results.
dog training is definitely a search of local interest. search a non local term.

And most searchers are blind to the ads.

Yea I have to agree here for sure, the vast majority of searches don't trigger local results.

Certainly Google are cracking down on the level of content on the sites towards the top of their results though. The answer is simply a higher level of content.

Put yourself into a dog owners shoes. Would you rather get advice from a local dog trainer or some internet marketer's ebook, whose content most likely isn't original, and just rehashed information that you can find online for free? Obvious is obvious.
