.info domains for commercial purposes

Hey guys,

Quick question...

Im interested in registering a .info domain, and using it for commercial purposes. But wanted to ask first....would this be a sensible decision?

Im hesitant as ...

1. I've never registered or ranked a .info domain before
2. I'm concerned about using a .info domain for commercial purposes.

Would anyone like to share via PM, proof that a .info can be used in this manner, or at least ranks well.

Thanks

Short answer is yes they can be used for commercial purposes John.

Question is... why would you want to?

Why make your SEO harder work than it has to be?

When was the last time you saw a .info at the top of the search engines?

Why not just stick with the .com or another top level domain extension?

If it's because the .com or another top level domain extension isn't available and the availability is only on the .info sure go for it. You might just have a little extra work getting it to rank well but if this isn't too important, simply concentrate all of your energies on driving as much highly targeted traffic to your website as possible.

    Hope this helps a little.

      Thanks Mark.

Yes, unforunately every variation is taken. Even the hyphenated versions are taken.

The .info is available and its an EMD.

Ill keep digging, just wanted to ask the Warriors.

Well, if it's any consolation I was recently in the same predicament John and registered a one word domain using the .info

Fair do's, if I want to rank it well in the search engines, I'll probably have my work cut out for me, no big deal. What I'll do instead is simply concentrate on sending traffic via the social media sites and other sources directly to the domain instead. No reason at all why it shouldn't still generate a decent income / revenue.

So if it's available just go for it, think outside the box imaginatively and I'm sure it should work well for you too. No reason why it shouldn't, it's still a TLD although obviously not as popular as the .com / .net or / .org

        Kindest regards,

Why would SEO be harder if you have a .info domain? Does Google discriminate .info domains now? When did that even happen

Type in African Mango Plus Reviews on google US. You'll see a .info domain ranking on Google for a keyword that is very profitable. And that site is mine

Has there ever been sufficient proof that .com domain names rank faster than any other TLD?

Nothing stopping you from going .info.

However your preference should be .com followed by .net.

Will SEO be the primary source of traffic?

There's no reason not to use an info if you are going to put the same effort into it that you would any other extension. They rank equally given equal effort to rank.

The only reason I would avoid one is if I planned on selling the site. If it's a keeper, no problem.
