Don't Miss The Boat While You Are Trying To Find The Perfect Sailor's Hat

Imagine if you will if you had an invite to go on a cruise on someone's luxury yacht, where you could rub elbows with the hottest women on the planet.

You would want to make a good impression for sure...

Whatever your goals, you would want to make sure people noticed you and held you in grand esteem...

So you get it in your head that folks would look up to you if you looked the part of the ship's captain...

While that might be a smart play with the ladies, that would be a difficult call, because some ladies don't look up to men with authority.

But imagine if you will that you went to the clothing store on the pier to find the right clothing before the yacht launched to sea...

And when you finally made the purchase of the right clothing for your cruise, you head down to the dock and see the yacht cruising away...

You missed this opportunity, because you were focused on all of the wrong things.

The ladies may have loved you just the way you are.

So often, we see people in this forum who get lost in details that just do not matter to their future success.

People want to drive traffic, build social media likes and follows, and so much more, yet they do not yet have a product to offer.

At the end of the day, what matters is what you are selling and how you are going to get the sale. Once those items are covered, then driving traffic and social media interest becomes important.

My point is that a sailor's hat is a wasted expense if you are standing on a dock with no ship to sail.

Another thing, which I could add, is the expectation of some that when they are completing their goals, that others will approve, or applaud them.

Some folks may get on the ship and not thank the captain, or not take notice. Kind of harping on the same note as above, but I have personally seen people get caught up in the whole "goal approval" thing...but one should really complete their goals for themselves......not for the purpose of getting the attention of others....

so true. i have one more analogy. website or project you think to launch is like some women before party. they can try on all their dresses, but at the party she will still complain that she looks bad. so it is with websites or projects, you can spend days and weeks, but at the end you still will not be 100% satisfied.
all in all, you always can edit, of course if you have what to edit.

    Lady Gaga and Rooney Mara?!

Who cares about a hat? I'm bringing a latex bodysuit and a suitcase full of toys and condoms.

But do you sell sailor's hats?

(Yes, I realize this is an old post. But that spam post just tickled my funny bone.)

      ETA...

On topic: I had two friends who decided to start a business. They spent an incredible amount of time brainstorming names for their business. Then they bought their domain name.

Next, they got to brainstorming what they should label themselves (CEOs, founders, etc). They never moved past that stage. Their ship sailed away while they brainstormed titles for themselves. LOL

Great post! I think I need to use this analogy to some people I speak with outside the forum.
