Offline Marketing - Delivering Flyers

Hi guys i run a small web design business have barely done much marketing other than SEO, Email Marketing, Social Media and PPC. I have printed at over 1000 flyers which was pretty pricey and was thinking of attaching a cover letter outlining my services etc and posting at least 200-300 flyers out to small businesses in my local area. Do you think this is a good idea, because if it can get me at least 10 new clients i'd be happy with that. Or do you think i'd be better off contacting businesses and making an appointment to meet them in person?

      I think it's a good idea to try. I would not do this in lieu of calling, but it sounds like a decent idea. If you have a nice piece already printed, maybe staple a flyer and/or business card to it, and hand deliver it to local businesses.

      I don't know if that would yield you 10 new clients or not. I kind of doubt it. But I bet it would get you a few appointments.

      Something I recently did... I grabbed a local newspaper and called into the businesses advertising there.

      I sell IM services for local businesses, but I always include something else in my pitch - I tell them that even if they are not interested in my services, I would still like to meet with them just to get to know them..."it's important for us business owners in the Gainesville area to know each other so we can refer business back and forth."

      I find most local businesses have either attended a BNI group or participated in some local business networking... adding this to the pitch helps...it really does.

      I'd try the flyer thing and see if it works. Heck, it can't hurt!

    Setting up appointments is very time consuming, before I became a full time I/Mer I was a carpenter, I used a local leaflet distribution company to deliver them for me.

      @Kevin above is right too. I pay about $50 per thousand delivered for flyers dropped on door steps. I do this for my clients... At that price, your flyer will be one of several, usually in a bag.

      But for B2B sales, hand delivering a piece to businesses would be great. FOllow that up with a call... "DId you get my letter/flyer?" type thing.
