Where the big money is?

Hey guys,

I have a huge target for 2012. I started a niche education site nearly 3 months ago and I've been doing ok, but my target is to reach $2k per month.

I've spent weeks searching for a new niche market, but all the big ones (finance, losing weight etc) all seem to be extremely competitive and after using Market Samurai to find the smaller niches, I have been unsuccessful.

I would like to create a new niche website with Google Adsense and maybe Amazon products, but I seem to have Market Samurai writer's block.

Any suggestions to kick start my search again?

Thanks for any help

J

Sports that require heavy investmentd in to equipment. e.g.
    Kite-surfing: startup cost over $3000

'Elmar' went with a great idea and working out with this is much better.
All the best for achieving your target for 2012.

That's an excellent idea Elmar suggested.

With Adsense and Amazon, from what I've experienced, quantity matters. You need many different sites so you can test potential, run with the winners and flip the stale ones. You can then flip the winners later if you wanted.

I'd also say aim higher than $2k/month. Stay realistic, but aiming for say $10k a month brings with it a different kind of thinking and motivation. You are forced to think of a system which can make that amount of money. I don't mean blindly aim for $10k, but whatever you plan to make $2k/m with, make sure there is room for you to increase this when you hit that target. This will force you to look far ahead and really unearth the potential of your efforts.

I wish you the best for 2012!

The big money generally speaking is giving people what they want and need.

Zig Ziglar said it best. "You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want."

So effectively this works in any niche.

Instead of worrying specifically about a system to make you $10K/month - Focus on your visitors, your future customers.

Think carefully - what are their needs, what information do the need - How can you help them out, what can you do to shortcut their search for information.

Honestly in my experience so many people look at IM the wrong way - They focus on WIIFM (Whats In In For Me) what it should be "How can I truly help my potential customers out".

Put your focus squarely on your web site visitors and give them what they need and the money will come.

    This works in ANY niche.

This is the problem. The money will not always come and this does not work in every niche. Being optimistic and generous is virtuous but they will not guarantee success or money. They may lead to it. This attitude cannot be a substitute for research, planning, execution and cashflow.

Try saying this works in any niche to people who have given their souls to their niche and can't even afford to rent their own place.

Actually it does work. It's nothing to do with being optimistic and generous (although this will help).

Yes you still need the right plan and need to execute it. Not taking action will never help you. Yes the niche needs to have at least some activity. No point trying to succeed in a niche no one belongs to. I am assuming we are talking about a niche with these characteristics at least.

My point is many people seem to think that success is finding a magical niche where all the numbers add up, or where adwords clicks are at a certain level or where the minimum spend is $3K or whatever is where they should be focusing.

        **WRONG WRONG WRONG**

Create a website that helps your visitors with compelling content and google will love you and so will your visitors.

Focus on this and you will succeed.

As for people giving their all to a niche and failing - Ever considered the problem was them and not the niche?

I've spent the last few weeks trying to work out how I can apply my passions to a website - fixing computers, playing squash and a few other things. Problem is, it seems to be so hard to write good quality original content, becuase there are hundreds of other websites writing good quality content about these topics. That's the problem I face. I need to now look at areas where I can write good quality content about subjects with little competition, but also try to make some money.

Well think laterally. What about compiling the best articles for each, writing a short summary of them and linking to them? Be the reporter or a news site.

Your summary could give the lowdown on what people will get out of reading a particular article to save them having to decide if it's worth reading. You know a summary in 100 words or less.

Or list the top 50 articles you found and put together in a handy resource where the focus is on people coming back to your site for more tips.

You could even put up a custom google for search box and allow people to search for articles and set it up to include only those sites that you thought had the best articles.

Where do they have to come back to each time to search? Your site? Who makes some money from adsense everytime they search? You do!

        Get the idea?

There are lots of way to get creative.

Also regarding beating out great content, just because someone has written a great article about X does not mean you can't write about it and add you own unique spin to it? A different perspective perhaps?

Or even if it's essentially the same information, but in your own unique style.

Maybe you could do this 50% of the time and write your own 100% unique articles the other 50% of the time.

That sort of thing works real well - Again the focus is on helping the visitor out, and in the scenarios above you are adding real value.

Late over here in Australia (12.00am) will reply to any other messages in the morning.

        Cheers

This is where you make a difference. Sure, lots of people are writing about these topics but none of them are writing from your perspective.

If you take the advice of tim_buchalka above and write what you think will help people the most, then you will soon find that you are developing a following of people who want to hear what you have to say.

This has never been more important than now when so much weight is being put on social media and branding. Developing a following has never been more critical and will continue to be so IMHO.

The key is to not just churn out boring articles but really think about what people want to know. What are you biggest problems/questions about fixing computers/squash? Chances are people have those problems and questions too. Write articles that solve and answer these and you will find that you start getting lots of traffic and start to develop a trust that turns that traffic into buyers.

Here's my suggestion. I would go for Home & Garden products from Amazon.com. Products such as Vanities, Lawn Mowers, Kitchen Faucets, etc. Just go to the Amazon site and browse through sub-categories under each category (do not search for products, just browse). I am sure; you can easily figure a lot of interesting stuff that can be sold.

My suggestion: focus on something you are passionate about. Regardless of whether the niche is saturated or not, if your passion shows and you are providing good and useful info, you'll find that people will beat a path to your door. It's not easy, but the fact is that pretty much any niche you can think of is either not worth doing or saturated. And frankly if someone here did know of a niche which was truly gold and which hasn't been exploited yet, do you really think they'd tell you rather than use it themselves?

Excellent point, passion is something I did not touch on. Passion is powerful, addictive and is something everyone wants. Thats another great tip to dominate a niche.

    Some good stuff here

Another niches for you mate :

    memory foam mattress
    hovercrafts (no I'm not kidding)
design items (furnitures, decoration) --> lot of traffic, pretty good commissions on some high end items.

As for another answers to "where is the big money ?", I'd say :

1 - money is the list. Don't overlook this. Not new but very effective. I heard that a lot a few years ago, but didn't bother. Big mistake my friend, big mistake.

2 - Big money is also in product launches mate. If you know what you're doing, and have access to the right subscribers lists, then you're on to REAL big money. And this is not reserved to Internet Marketing.

It depends really. I normally go for a broadish keyword like dehumidfiersshop.com then build an affiliate site around that with lots of different types on there...

        Danny

PS I would then build pages targeting individual keywords

Locksmithing. You can easily rank a website for local locksmith terms then outsource the work to locksmiths in your area via an 800 number for a commission.

Locksmith jobs often times range anywhere from 20 bucks to unlock your car or front door to $10,000 to get brand new locks for an entire office worth of doors.

    I'd try it out.

a lot of people are saying that you should focus on something you are passionate about. I would definitely disagree with this. Just because you're passionate about something doesn't mean that it is a market to focus on. choose your niche based on profitability, and don't be scared of competition because if there is competition there is money to be made

    hey j

remember that competition is a good thing

of course you dont want to tackle keywords like weight loss but as you mentioned go for niche keywords and the low hanging fruit

competition means theres plenty of money to be made you just have to find a way in to the niche

i only ever use the mark 1 eye ball and serp iq to check compeititon these days and its good enough for me and works well

if you outsource the first few articles for each site then that will make things much easier and then you could then maybe continue the writing from there yourself

    a little tip

i do all my keyword research on amazon, because amazon are full of actual hot products that people are buying

once you find a good product on amazon you can then use the page to find more keywords and/or use that page or your seed keyword and go from there

hope this gives you a few things to think about

I have over 50 amazon niche sites now, my advice for what it is worth is do not discount the lower priced items. My "benchmark" aim for each site is $70 a month. Why $70 dollars? well after hosting and outsourcing, a site making $70 a month pays for itself within 3 months. If it does not then I flip it. I have flipped sites with $500+ items purely because they failed the "benchmark".

My most successful sites brings in $500 plus a month each are in the $100 to $300 product price range.

  • @Danny Cutts: Thanks a million for that video. It's a real eye opener to those new to the game like myself. Could you recommend good reading material for the next steps. Such as setting up an auto blog, software to use etc? (I'm a seasoned web developer, usually building other peoples sites).

As with the OP, I've set myself a similar goal. $2000 a month and I have 9 months to do it. In my case I'm hoping that my wife won't have to return to full time employment following the birth of our second child.
