Best Laptop/Notebook for a College Internet Marketer?

Hi warriors,

Basically, I am a internet marketer + site flipper + website developer and a hardcore gamer. However, I am also a college undergrad. I have been using Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista and I am pretty happy with it except for its small RAM that is not enough to "satisfy" my Vista OS.

I am deciding to buy a new laptop or notebook but still undecided if I should go for Mac or Windows. I have google for the differences but I still find it's much better to ask some warriors here.

I am thinking of getting a new Macbook because I heard it's only $900 or something like that. However, I am afraid that using Mac will restrict my uses on softwares and programs.

I am in a huge dilemma. I have a budget of $1k only unfortunately.

    I use this: HP TX2000

It's a tablet, with 4gb ram and an Nvidia chip. It's 12', got enough horsepower for counter-strike (i don't do much gaming) and is super portable. And sturdy as hell too.

And nothing beats reading ebooks in tablet mode... think of it as a slightly bulkier Kindle.

I have a dell inspiron 6400 with vista, not sure exactly how the specs of that are different to the inspiron 1525 but I've got an insane amount of programs and junk I've installed over the last year and it still runs smooth. I brought mine about a year ago for under $1k so you should easily be able to get it really cheap now.

I got my trusty Toshiba for only $800 or so. It's worked great and I love it.

Seems like everyone is recommending me Windows laptop and tablet. I'm not fancy about tablet but would love to hear from Mac users.

I got a Sony Vaio recently, love it. But my next laptop
will certainly be a Mac. I have tried it and are
    very impressed by it.

I would go for the mac. I bought a dell laptop which came loaded with bloatware i.e. stuff I would never have installed. In the end I switched to ubuntu linux.

Now if I need windows tools I can run them up in a virtual machine.

Mac? His budget is 1k... for 1k you can get a windows machine that will do so much more.

Not to mention if your battery dies... which it will, huge hassle. My dad has a mac book pro. It's a decent machine but repair costs, god forbid you have them, will suck you dry. That's our experience anyway.

IMO, its got nothing on my laptop which can transform into a tablet. Plus the battery, ram, hard-drive and dvd burner are all user-accessible.

    Choose wisely.

Is it the ram that you've got a problem with, or is it the video memory? You'd probably get much more bang for your buck if you just bought 2 - 2 gig sticks of ram. (Assuming you're laptop has the 2nd ram slot). Dell has an awesome online interface for checking what is compatible with your system to upgrade. Let me know and I'll forward on the address.

Ram is not hard to install into a laptop at all. On the bottom of it there should be a door with a pair of screws on it, with an icon that looks like a RAM chip. Pop it off, install the new ram. Power up the system, hit F1 to accept the changes and you should be good to go.

I noticed you mentioned everything was working well with your computer besides the RAM. I too have Vista and it came standard with 1gb of RAM. RAM is very cheap in the current market I paid $90 to upgrade it to 3gb and it runs super fast and super smooth. You could also take the rest of the money and invest it in a PPC campaign and reap the benefits of that.

From my understanding a mac is more suitable for industrial use and isnt as noob friendly as windows/pc. In terms of capacity its better though.

I dont think I will ever get a computer with vista on it.

I don't see why Vista is still hated. I use it, have never had
a problem with it, and actually I'm the most productive on my Vista laptop
        than Mac or XP.

All those comptability issues were relevant only when it was first released... everything's been fixed and is all gravy. Get with the times.

Mac is a good choice. Very fast plus you won't get to worry about viruses and several hung ups. If you want to save though, settle on something that is not MAC but is fast and efficient enough for all your internet marketing efforts.

I heard that 50% of the computers bought with
prices of 1K and up are Mac, so we can see
that more people are using Mac now. Used to be
90% PC and 10% Mac users
