UltraCart huge major disappointment

I recently signed back up with UltraCart after using my own hosted cart for a couple of years (Synergyx) and got a quote for their custom API integration, where the checkout page is on your own site and it sends the order to UC via an API.

I did this because I have the "green bar" EV SSL and that alone increased conversions by a pretty insane amount, so I don't want to give it up and go back to a third-party checkout page.

Anyway, they charged me $1,500 to build the custom page. It didn't work, but when I tried to get it resolved, UltraCart's development team simply stopped replying to my emails and left me hanging. This went on for well over a month before I gave up on them.

I found an independent programmer with a lot of UltraCart experience, who went in and found a *TON* of problems with UltraCart's build - things like someone could put in a fake CC# and the order would still process as approved! This cost me another $300.

After that was done I set up an A/B split test between my existing Synergyx checkout page and my new UltraCart page... and the old page is converting better at a rate of 5-to-1 which tells me the UltraCart page isn't working like it should.

Has anyone else tried their API? Is it total rubbish and a waste of time and money to pursue this any further before giving up?

I had the same experience with UltraCart, when something is a bit complicated their development team just ignores you. I also filed a BBB complaint but they ignored it, they have an F rating on BBB.

In my case the unthinkable happened for a company of the magnitude of UltraCart. I spent over $5,000 for UltraCart to develop my website. Everything went ok. Then the developer that configured the site left ultracart. Now I have changes I need to make to the site AND THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE THEM!! No documentation whatsoever.

They have no continuity. The account manager is now completely ignoring me. I am looking into filing a lawsuit so I can get my money back and move to another provider.

Terrible experience. I would recommend against doing business with UltraCart although they indeed have probably the best package out there.

why would you guys hire them to build a website for you? LOL thats foolish. they're a shopping cart company.

Frank, you can design anything you want for the checkout page, and then get it functional with their cart. (we just have our programmer make it functional)

good cart, very customizable and flexible... NOT user friendly and their support kinda sucks... (only 2 dudes work there).

Davemiz, because programming a website is a flaky business and hiring ultra cart is as risky as hiring any other bozo. UltraCart used to have a decent developer that unfortunately left the company.
