Website gaining good traffic, earnings still so/so

Hey warriors,

My entertainment website, BROcrastinator is having its highest trafficked month in it's 14th month in existence. Recently, I've been able to earn some decent revenue, occasionally hitting around $150 per month depending on affiliate sales, however I feel this number could definitely be higher..

Currently, the site is receiving around 500 unique visitors per day and around 750 page views. It's been difficult to monetize, as the site is mainly entertainment based, but I've been able to make some money with Amazon, Google and a betting affiliate site. I've struggle to build a constant stream of revenue however, instead relying on the occasional big affiliate comission that comes around every so often.

Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on my site and how I could improve it to further generate more revenue? Look forward to hearing your thoughts..

-Rob

What's your business model mate? How have you configured your list and funnel? We need this sort of information.

I started building my list around October and it now has around 40 people on my e-mail list which I utilize AWeber for. The numbers have been improving pretty steadily, as I began to offer a free book giveaway for anyone who signs up for the newsletter.

My business model is mostly affiliate posts, in which I talk about a topic, whether it's books, sports and promote an affiliate program or product in conjunction to my content. I also utilize Google AdSense, but my earnings aren't too great on that, only around $1 a day.

        1. Get more people on your list. SEO, generating more straffic, better funnel, etc.
        2. Don't just talk about such and such. Try to build a relationship with them. Start pre-selling the importance of your affiliate products to them.
        3. Don't expect many sales with 40 people on your list. Just plain not enough.
        4. If you AdSense earnings at $1 a day, get rid of it. Focus on on business model at a time. If that's selling affiliate products, do that. If it's AdSense, do that.

The big thing is not too cover the site with too many ads.

Are you capturing the visitors and building a relationship? remember, email marketing aint going nowhere anytime soon.

I agree with all of what your saying. I've worked extremely hard to build up relationships with a wide variety of readers and earn their trust. As for the email list, I realize it's quite small, which is why I'm making a concerted effort to build it up through free prize giveaways and other added incentives.

I feel like my efforts are certainly paying off in terms of traffic, so hopefully with my continued hard work and some trained advice, I can increase earnings in direct proportion to traffic.

Hey Rob definitely you have a nice site and a lot of traffic and maybe will be good to add a new category Internet Marketing and see how your traffic respond.

I think you can improve your website revenue by changing your ad placements. For example, adding a square banner right under the main article title always increased click through rate for my sites.

Maybe you could launch some of your own bro products and promote them to your bro list with a bro webinar? A brobinar, if you will.

Hey - Love Studiopress and Genesis...good stuff. The site looks great.

One thing I noticed was the aweber form: "Sign up for our newsletter to receive our FREE E-Book and product giveaways!"

Maybe tighten that up a little to be more specific? What's the eBook about?

Also - the form is subordinated to the social buttons on the Home Page. That's fine, if Likes or Follows are more important to you. Maybe put some thought into what's more important and highlight that above the fold.

Last - it's definitely a debatable topic around here... But I also have a site in a niche that is harder to monetize (politics). I started using a pop up to get signups and it seems to be working better than any on-page signup form did. Maybe you could try that?

Thanks for the advice. I too have tried a pop-up (specifically the Pop-Up Domination plug-in), and it simply didn't convert too well. I decided to ditch it because I felt like it might piss some of my readers off and I just didn't think it was worth it for the amount of subscribers I gained from it, which was minimal.

I've done some organic backlinking strategies, but I'm honestly afraid to purchase any backlinking strategies because I think they might damage my sites reputation or even harm my relationship with Google.

Good choice. If you have the time, you can do this by yourself. Do you allot time for your backlinking efforts? Well, other than posting here in the Warrior Forums, of course.

I usually send my content to relevant sites for backlinking and content promotion. Not only does that help me build a bigger following, but it also works to advance the SEO of my site as well.
