My New Timeline Facebook Page

I was on Facebook playing around with the changes.

Looks like the main changes are:

1. Width change to 810 pixels (I like this)
2. Default landing tab control eliminated (don't like this!)

I setup a new fanpage for my squeeze page system. I couldn't setup a default landing tab but I was able to create a cool "Special Offer" tab that is prominently displayed.

On this "Special Offer" page I was able to drop some graphics and an optin form.

Here is the page.

Squeeze Page Builder | Facebook

Still some work to do...Any thoughts or feedback is appreciated.

Any tips on working with the new changes?

I've been playing around with it a lot of the day as well as recording my updates. In my research it's come up time and time again that you cannot use direct call to actions and arrows to like buttons in your cover shot so your page is most definitely against their T&C.

The most creative ways around it I've seen are the Coca-Cola woman looking at the like button and the Livestrong cover design leading the eyes. Links...

      Daniel,

I wanted the call to action to direct to "Special Offer".

I like you can add images to the tabs like I did with the red Special Offer image. It stands out enough on the page.

I was not aware of any possible issue with the arrow.

I'm going to check out the TOS.

What about "like gate" type features? Have they eliminated it? I tried to setup a test today....clicked like...and nothing happened.

      Here's what you could do...

      1. Use an image in your cover photo that displays what a squeeze page is in theory. Not samples of squeeze pages. But more of a process map of what a squeeze page does.
      • Leave out any contact information
      • Leave out any calls to action (including "like this page" or arrows to the like button")
      Example

      The Modern Entrepreneur | Facebook

You could also try something like...

      Macy's | Facebook
      HubSpot | Facebook

      2. Use your apps section to create several calls to action opportunities
      • Try using a small graphic that says "Free ..."
      • and name the app "Like Us" or something more clever (BTW: Your "like-gate" app has to auto refresh after the "like" or nothing will happen. The Macy's like-gate page does this.)

HubSpot does this well. HubSpot | Facebook

      3. In your "About Section" add the http:// before your url. It'll give a live link to your site.

      4. Use a logo in your profile image. The one you have now isn't easy to read or discern.

      5. Sharpen your images so the edges are more clear. Right now the pixels are kinda fuzzy and as a 1/2 blind person I keep trying to squint to make them more clear. You don't want to do this to 1/2 blind people

      HTH,

It looks great... and you have much more space for adding stuff which you did not have before, I still not updated my pages, but they will be updated once this in effect from 30th March.

Eventually the coding of your apps would require changes to be in sync with facebook's design, they will still show up though!

Can I be honest? It looks terrible.

    1) Calls to action in your background image at the top are against their new TOS for pages. So you'll have to change that to be compliant.

    2) Timeline was a bad idea for profiles and they know it, that's why it's taking them so long to roll it out. Longer than any new feature ever before. They're weird, confusing, and just too much for the average user.

    3) I wouldn't waste a dime or more importantly any of my time, to send traffic and visitors to a page with persistent image and text ads for other people's stuff taking up that much screen real estate. Especially with an even WIDER column to promote Facebook stuff right next to it.

It looks like they decided to allow pages to have timeline as an afterthought. Maybe to get marketers on board with the train wreck that is timeline. It looks clunky and forced. It'll be even worse as more marketers get a hold of it because, like yours, it'll look like an over the top, awkward, and out of place advertisement interrupting facebookers doing what facebookers do.

FanPages are supposed to be where you interact with your product/brand's fans. Engage them. You guys mentioned coca cola and livestrong. Look at their pages then look at yours. See what you're doing wrong?

If you want to sell something to a Facebooker, figure out how to get cheap clicks on FB ads and post an eye catching ad. Then, when they click the ad they'll be, get this, on a page you totally control!

      .../QUOTE]

If that's the case, and if we can't have default tabs (which I haven't verified for myself) then f*(K Facebook.

As a direct response marketer I'm not happy about this.

However, I guess a lot of people will be happy about a big space to place their logo - even though it will not make them any money.

I'm not happy about the new changes. Things look disorganized and require a lot more clicks to see information. Too bad it's not voluntary, instead of being forced into it.
